HONORING CLASS OF 1950/51

Members of the Class of 1950/51 pictured with students who have participated in the Shaker High School Summer Academy.

Tonight we are happy to pay special tribute to the members of the Shaker Heights High School Class of 1950/51. Alumni from these classes have worked tirelessly over the past decade with the goal of providing additional academic support for our students. To date, the combined classes have raised more than $290,000 to support initiatives such as a Summer Academy to help academically at-risk students transition successfully to the High School, and a new social and emotional curriculum being piloted at Lomond and Boulevard Elementary Schools. Burt Griffin, a retired Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge shares, “A lot of us felt that Shaker was the foundation for all the good things that happened in our lives. It really opened doors for us. We had reached a time in our lives when we were ready to give back: it was just the right thing to do.” Now, the members of 1950/51 hope their actions will inspire other Shaker classes to follow the trail they have blazed. Says Van Seasholes, who worked for many years as a teacher and administrator living on the East Coast, “I would hope that other classes will continue what our class has started. Traditionally, graduates of private schools are asked to contribute. Shouldn’t we do the same?” The Foundation and our A Night for the Red & White guests honor these class members for their dedication.
