● I walk around McGolrick Park. The trees are very tall, casting beautiful shadows with sun spots peeking through. People wander around aimlessly. Children climb on the playground.
● I sit at a bench facing a tree that has a huge knot in it. I realize I’m 3 benches away from a group of teenagers, two girls and one boy. One girl is light-skinned, with long braids that are blonde. They reach to the center of her back. She is tall and thin, wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a loose t-shirt. I’m going to call her “A”. The other two have darker complexions. They’re sitting down while the tall girl stands in front of them. The girl (“B”) has her hair natural, as does the boy (“C”). They’re both in jeans and a t-shirt as well. I decide to listen in to what they’re saying. I listen for a while about some issue that A is having with her boyfriend. Eventually, I discover their most recent fight was about him being paranoid about being watched when they were smoking weed. B: But he has a point, we’re literally always being watched and heard. A: I don’t give a fuck who’s watching me and him, he doesn’t think I’ll take the fall for him!? C: I don’t really think you get how this works place yet. B: I mean really, if anything was going to happen, don’t you think it’d ought to have happened by now? C: I’d rather be safe than sorry, that’s all I’m saying. A: I think you’re paranoid too. C: I think you’re being too comfortable in where we are now! But that’s none of my business haaaa. C sips an imaginary glass of tea B: I THINK that nothing will ever happen to us! We’re watched and contained, and if we don’t go too far, they ain’t going to go too far either. A: What day is tomorrow? 1 or 2? C: It’s a day 2, subject changer.
