ere we go again! Last year we were in a very deep Covid 19 lockdown, something that we had never experienced. Now I hope you are all in good health, have had your two vaccine shots and are taking proper precautions against
the virus. We learned how to produce and participate in Shul services through Streaming and Zoom. Our Rabbi Bright must be praised for his outstanding continuous work bringing us close to our beloved Shaare Zedek through his daily and Shabbat services. Then Gershon Katz joined and gave us even more, through his daily participation and D’var Torahs., taking over with enthusiasm when Rabbi Bright went on vacation. Now we welcome Cantor Boaz Davidoff from Israel to the Shaare Zedek clergy. None of this could have taken place without our fantastic Staff. want to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Religious Services Committee this year in addition to continuing as the Parnass, which position I have held for seven years. I want to thank Nancy Cooperberg for her years of excellent

As the COVID 19 pandemic fades – and hopefully this will continue – we can look forward to a transition back to ‘normal’ over the course of the year. e are beginning to see the light as the pandemic is more under control. For almost 18 months, we learned to adapt to a new reality, one that we never imagined would exist in our lifetimes. The vaccinations are rolling out success-
fully and restrictions are easing up, though we must still be vigilant. Shaare Zedek continues to follow all public health guidelines to ensure that everyone is kept healthy and safe. We are proud to offer both In-Person services as well as online to give access to as many people as possible during the upcoming High Holy Days. They say that necessity is the mother of invention. In that spirit, Shaare Zedek transitioned quickly to online services, integrating Zoom and Live Streaming. Our investment in Audio Visual equipment is very significant and yielded tremendous results. We learned quite a bit since we began, and all of our online services are fully automated. This is consistent with our commitment to respect all Halachic guidelines. At present, we are allowed a maximum of 250 people to attend services and hope this will increase in the near future. We encourage everyone to join us In-Person at the Shul. It’s an entirely different experience when we are together in the building. Cantor Boaz Davidoff arrived in Montreal in mid July to lead our services. His voice is uplifting and a joy to listen to.

ment to Shaare Zedek and the wider community. Combined with Shaare Zion Sisterhood, we delivered a highly successful virtual Torah Fund event, Rivka Campbell was the speaker. We plan to join with Shaare Zion again for a book review of ‘The Girl from Dream City’. The author, Linda Leith, founder of Blue Metropolis and member of the Order of Canada, will be the speaker. The event will take place early in October. Please watch for details. Our major project, the furnishing of the new Simcha room, is going ahead. We plan to finish by Yom Tov. Sisterhood furnished the original Bride’s Room and we are happy to continue the tradition. We thank everyone who has paid Sisterhood Dues or honoured us with donations. At that time, we had 2 young kids and we fell in love with the spirit of the Shul but even more with the Children’s High Holiday Services that were run by the late great Sam Ramelson. It is our honor and privilege to continue in this great tradition and run the services ourselves. We have changed the format and it is now a FAMILY HIGH HOLIDAY SERVICE. We have re-written the prayer book so that every prayer is in Hebrew, English and transliterated so that those who do not read Hebrew can read along using English lettering.
