We’re excited to share that the Pine Street rebuild is entering its final stages and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks bringing our first Altadena rebuild family closer to returning home and beginning a new chapter together.
This milestone reflects months of steady progress made possible by the dedication of countless volunteers, partners, and supporters who have shown up week after week with skill, heart, and commitment
Recently, construction on the second rebuild in Altadena began, expanding our impact and helping another family take their first steps toward home. The project will include a 1,259 sqft, 3BR/2BA front home, along with a 731 sqft, 2BR/1BA ADU on the same property creating safe homes for multiple generations
For homeowner Helen, this milestone represents far more than construction progress
“Home to me now means comfort, safety, love, and community,” she shared “It means waking up and knowing I’ll be home again ”

From framing and systems installation to finishing work now underway, every step forward represents the power of community coming together to rebuild after loss and create lasting stability for families

On January 7 the one-year anniversary of the Eaton Fire San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity was honored at the Los Angeles Kings vs San Jose Sharks game at Crypto com Arena, following a generous $150,000 investment from the Kings Care Foundation supporting Altadena’s recovery.
The evening included a ceremonial puck drop and an in-arena video spotlighting SGV Habitat’s rebuilding work, bringing visibility to the families and partners who are helping restore homes and hope after the fire. That recognition quickly turned into real-world impact.
Inspired by the story shared that night, a Kings fan and local roofing company owner pledged donated labor and materials to install roofs on Altadena rebuilds an estimated $1 million gift-in-kind helping families return to safe, stable homes sooner.

Last month, Senator Sasha Renée Pérez announced $4 million in state investments to support rebuilding efforts for families impacted by the Eaton Fire an important milestone in Altadena’s ongoing recovery
We are honored that $1 million of this funding is supporting SGV Habitat’s work to create affordable ADU housing, helping fire survivors take meaningful steps toward safe, stable homes These resources are part of a broader effort to expand housing solutions, including modular housing and faith-based initiatives, allowing more families to move forward on their path home.
This investment reflects the power of collaboration between state leaders, nonprofit organizations, and community partners working side by side to strengthen recovery efforts We are

grateful to the California Community Foundation for serving as the philanthropic partner helping move this work forward, and to the many organizations and individuals on the ground every day turning resources into real solutions for Altadena families
Recovery truly takes all of us and together, our community continues to grow stronger

Volunteers from LA Rises recently joined San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity in Altadena, lending their time and talents to help rebuild a home for a family impacted by the fire The group was joined on site by GO-Biz Director Dee Dee Myers and GO-Serve Director Josh Fryday, highlighting partnership and community service organizations, California Service Corp rebuilding hope one home at a time
With a background in CAD and construction, Ethan wanted to move beyond the classroom and put his skills to work supporting affordable homeownership in the San Gabriel Valley
Through SGV Habitat, he helped create ⅜ - scale housing models for Altadena transforming digital designs into detailed foam core models using precision cuts, wood strips, and careful assembly

Seeing complex blueprints come to life highlighted the role of thoughtful design in creating real housing solutions Along the way, Ethan strengthened his technical skills, improved time management, and learned how physical models help families better envision their future homes.
“It’s enriching to know my work will continue helping families,” he shared His advice to other students: use your strengths to serve giving back is personal, powerful, and impactful.

On December 27, alumni from Indiana University and the University of Alabama set aside their rivalries for a powerful build day in Altadena Just minutes from the Rose Bowl, 26 volunteers came together with SGV Habitat to show that community comes before competition.
While rivals on the field, they united around a shared goal helping rebuild homes and restore hope for Altadena families The day was filled with teamwork, energy, and a strong sense of community as volunteers worked side by side to move rebuilding efforts forward.
