This production of Carmen is a double celebration marking the 150th anniversary of Bizet’s timeless masterpiece and commemorating Singapore’s 60 years of independence. In this special moment, we’ve reimagined Carmen amidst the vibrant energy of 1960s Singapore a decade of cultural awakening, shifting identities, and bold beginnings that echoes Carmen’s own fierce spirit of freedom and defiance.
Bringing this vision to life has been a thrilling and deeply meaningful journey, made all the more special by the support of both our long-standing and new creative partners We are especially grateful to the French Embassy in Singapore for their generous contribution With the French soloists participation, it gives a beautiful tribute to the opera’s roots and legacy.
A heartfelt thanks also go to other sponsors, supporters, and all who have championed this production
Our very own Chorus groups have worked hard as the backbone of this production. From choristers as young as seven to our senior members, each one has played an essential role in the success of what you’ve experienced on stage tonight. The sets, lighting, and wardrobe designs have captured the essence of 1960s Singapore we hope they’ve stirred fond memories for some, or offered a fresh glimpse into our past for others After all, memories are meant to be cherished

Dear friends and supporters of the Singapore Lyric Opera,
Whether you are a valued corporate partner or an individual donor, we extend our heartfelt thanks to you the vital community behind our work.
While the arts have the power to inspire and enrich lives, sustaining them remains a challenge As a non-profit organisation, the Singapore Lyric Opera (SLO) relies not only on ticket sales which do not cover the full cost of our productions but also on government grants, sponsorships, and donations to bridge the gap.
We invite you to support us to be the BEST:
Boost the company’s artistic programming
Engage youth and children through our opera training programmes
Scale up audience experiences with fully-staged opera productions
To make opera accessible to all
Your donation will go even further qualifying us for “dollar-for-dollar” matching under government grant schemes, while also entitling you to a 250% tax deduction as SLO is a registered charity.
With your generous support, we can realise our shared dream of nurturing the next generation of musical talents and cultural professionals, while expanding our educational outreach and community initiatives.
Thank you for believing in the power of opera and in our mission
Warm regards,
The Singapore Lyric Opera Team
