Letter from the President & List of Past Presidents

There are a lot of games out there: football, soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, rugby. Do you notice something about them? They are all variations on the same theme – putting a ball (or puck) in the other team’s goal. Baseball is one of the rare games where the defense has the ball. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s kind of cool.

Everything about this game seems to be perfect. The mound to plate distance. The distance between bases. They seem to be dimensioned precisely for the pitcher/batter battle and close plays on the bases. This even holds true on our smaller Little League fields – just everything, including our players, scaled down.

It’s also a leisurely game to watch, with moments of action – tension and release. This allows time for friends and family to get together and enjoy each other’s company on a warm day as we watch our little one’s play.

My little league years were in the late 70’s. Pete Rose was my favorite player back then. As I hail from York, PA, I had my fair chance to see him play for the Phillies in the early 80’s. He played at 100% all the time, even sprinting down to first base when he got a base on balls. I will try to bring that same 100% philosophy to my tenure as your President. I won’t be perfect – neither was he. But I will do my best. Now that we’re playing again, let’s hope we can continue to do so and have a great year!
