William Wray Brave New World
William Wray William Wray (b.1956) has lived in California most of his life and studied painting at the Art Students League in New York. Wray is an American cartoonist, animator and painter widely known for his contributions to Mad Magazine and The Ren & Stimpy Show and now his current focus on regional landscape painting — under the names Bill Wray for his animated work and William Wray for his paintings. With his urban landscapes, he blends traditional skill sets of realism with abstract expressionism in an ongoing evolution to find the balance between two seemingly unrelated styles. Wray is noted for his tightly cropped subject matter and abstract painting style. The Huffington Post said he "has a brisk, bold style brushstroke that gives his city scenes a jolt of painterly drama.” Southwest Art Magazine called him "a chronicler of the fading urban remains of a bygone era.”
