CEO Report Progress report: The Lodge – The roof covering is 100% complete. Remaining repairs include fascia board and siding for the entire building, new window screens, replacement window casements, and five air-conditioner compressors. Premier Rehab – The roof covering is 100% complete. The interior drywall and insulation is 100% complete. Remaining repairs include fascia board and roof skirting for the entire building, new window screens, replacement window casements, four rooftop airconditioning compressors, insulation installation, drywall installation, flooring demolition and replacement, electrical diagnosis and repairs, ceiling tile replacement, and new interior light fixtures. Maintenance Shop – Work is 100% complete. Shingled roof buildings – Approximately 80% of the roofs and about 20% of all gutters have been replaced. Remaining repairs include gutters and downspouts, AC covers or new AC units, garage door repairs, replacements or painting, and window replacements. I reported last month the possibility of FEMA and SEMA assisting with our insurance deductible expense. We have recently been informed we will not qualify. But this is not all bad news. That’s right, part of the application process requires we apply for a SBA loan that has enhanced terms due to it being used for disaster response. This works in our favor and allows us to consider proceeding with pending projects. We still have a great deal of work ahead. Please continue to pray for God’s favor over this entire process. During the recent Board meeting, several pending projects were approved for continuation. These projects include the relocation of our laundry facilities and construction of a new 5plex building. They also approved our proposal for a new contractor for the campus television and internet services. There will be more news on this in the future. On a much sadder note, Sherry Gaines, is no longer working with Maranatha Village. Pray with us as we search for a qualified individual to fill this vacancy. Staff Spotlight Matthew Standage
I have been a physical therapist at Maranatha Village for the past three years. What I enjoy most about my job is helping people get back to the activities they enjoy and helping them become more independent in their everyday lives. It is rewarding to see the progress people make and to be a part of their journey toward reaching their goals. Outside of work, I’m married and have two boys, with a third boy on the way in December! Our family also includes our golden doodle, Maggie, who keeps things interesting. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time and playing with my boys, playing golf, and watching football. Most of my free time revolves around family.

If you’ve been up to the library recently, you’ll notice the A/C is working again! Our thanks to Paul & Co. for the cool temps! By the way, if you love books and have your own transportation, you may want to get over to the Friends of the Library Book Sale, September 16–20, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E-Plex. Cash or check only. Sale hours are Wednesday–Friday: 10am to 8pm; Saturday (half-price day): 10am to 5pm, and Sunday (per-bag pricing): 1pm to 5pm. You can also go to the preview sale Tuesday 9/15 from 4pm to 8pm if you want to join for $5.
LUNCH AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER The Community Center Dining Room is serving a buffet lunch each Wednesday. The buffet is available 11:30AM-1PM and the cost is only $5 per person. No reservations are required and you are welcome to bring guests. A full menu will be emailed and available for pick up at the Community Center. We are also interested in your ideas for the menu. 1 pound pork sausage 1 cup grated cheddar cheese 5 or 6 slices of firm bread salt & pepper to taste ¾ cup of milk 8 eggs 1 can cream of mushroom soup ½ soup can of milk Brown meat. Cube bread. In 9x13 glass pan, layer bread, sausage, and cheese. Beat together eggs and 3/4 cup of milk with salt and pepper. Pour over casserole. Refrigerate overnight. When ready to bake, mix soup with milk and pour over first mixture. Bake about 50 minutes at 350 until light brown and bubbly.

Harvesting honey is a fascinating process that has been practiced for thousands of years, with evidence of honey collection dating back to ancient Egypt. One interesting fact is that honey bees must visit approximately two million flowers to produce just one pound of honey, showcasing their incredible work ethic and the crucial role they play in pollination. Another intriguing aspect is that honey never spoils; archaeologists have discovered pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. During the honey harvesting process, beekeepers use a smoker to calm the bees, which helps to prevent stings and makes it easier to access the honeycombs. Furthermore, the flavor and color of honey can vary significantly depending on the types of flowers from which the bees collect nectar, resulting in a wide variety of unique honey profiles. September is recognized as National Honey Month in the United States, a time to celebrate honey and the beekeeping industry. This month was chosen because it marks the end of the typical honey harvesting season in many parts of the country, allowing beekeepers to showcase the fruits of their labor and raise awareness about the importance of bees and honey.
THEN & NOW CAROLYN HITTENBERGER ABOUT ME I was the last of 8 siblings raised in upstate New York. My father was a deacon & my mother a pianist. At the age of 8 I invited Jesus to be my Savior & felt called to ministry. After High School I attended Bible School to prepare for missionary service. Around this time I met my future husband, Ron, when he visited my church and led the singing. Ron & I pastored in Watertown, NY, then moved to be Children’s & Youth Pastors in Lancaster, CA. It was there God spoke clearly to us, and called us to missions. We served in Haiti, The Bahamas, Guyana, Belize, among other places. Ron & I served in a variety of ministry roles. Ron served as National Superintendent in Haiti, Secretary of CFAGE, and later on the Academic Dean for the Caribbean School of Theology (CST). I was involved in building s National Women’s Ministry abroad, and together we taught marriage seminars. We served with CST 15 years which brought us to Springfield where we continued to serve at Praise Assembly. We have 2 sons, 2 daughters, 10 grand & 10 great grandchildren. Ron went to be with Jesus on March 25 of this year. It was our priviledge to serve the Lord together for 66 years. We are richly blessed.
