Mitchell Prater Memorial Scholarship Mitchell Prater Memorial Scholarship

Mitchell, a Saint Francis de Sales 2014 graduate, exemplified the four pillars of SFS: Academic, Spiritual, and Physical. He was a student-athlete who participated in football and lacrosse for all four years in high school. Mitchell was a true team player and had an overwhelming school spirit. For these reasons, Mitchell received many awards, including the Paul Spinazze Sportsmanship Award in lacrosse during his senior year. Mitchell’s approachable and kind personality made him loved by classmates, coaches, and faculty. In December 2020, Mitchell passed away from an inoperable brain tumor. The Mitchell Prater Memorial Scholarship is a tribute to his love for the St. Francis de Sales community.

He began his wrestling career in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the age of 13 after moving from Florida. He accumulated a high school record of 93-36 at Ann Arbor Skyline. Silas attended Eastern Michigan University and was a member of the wrestling team for one year as a walk-on. During his time at EMU, he also coached at Skyline and for the Jr Wolverines

Wrestling Club. Silas is the owner/operator of a local cheesecake franchise and is a competitive bodybuilder. SFS Athletic Director

Justin Edgell ’05 stated “Silas has expressed interest in coaching at St. Francis for several years and now is his opportunity. Michael “Scott” Davison Memorial Football Achievement Award

Scott was a three-year letter-winner at split end and wide receiver. He earned All-City Honors in 1991, catching 28 passes for 495 yards, 21 first downs and scored 7 touchdowns, including two against Woodward in the “Hall of Fame” Bowl.

Scott graduated on June 6, 1992. He died five days later. A Memorial Football Achievement Award Fund has been established at St. Francis in Scott’s memory. This award has been presented annually since the 1992-93 season. The award winner will have his name inscribed on a memorial plaque which will hang in the school. That plaque reads:

To the senior football player who consistently, through extra efforts in the most difficult of situations, conquered the challenges presented to him, to bring the honor and glory of victory to St. Francis de Sales High School, and in doing so, has left his family, friends, and teammates memories forever!

We hope that this memorial will recall for those who knew Scott or saw him play, a vision of his achievement and the joy his extra effort created for each of us. Hopefully, it will also help the young men who follow him at St. Francis de Sales School to be consciously aware of how short their lives can be, and inspire them to put forth the extra efforts that can change significantly the lives of those around them.
