I’m Kenn Schurek, Founder of LAZER RUNNER. We manufacture LAZER RUNNER Laser Tag Systems.

Let me tell you how I got into the laser tag business . . .

Many years ago, my company purchased several laser tag systems from another manufacturer. We then proceeded to set them up in various sites around North America.

What a disaster!

The equipment was absolutely terrible! Most of it was not durable and virtually disintegrated after heavy use. It was difficult to repair, and the “down-time” was costing us big money in lost revenue. After a few busy months, the equipment was not usable anymore and could no longer be repaired - game over.

In retrospect this was a blessing in disguise. It made us aware of several facts. Firstly, we realized there was a lot of money to be made in the laser tag business. Even though the equipment we purchased as ­operators was junk at best, people still liked the game very much.

We are laser tag operators as well as manufacturers.

Most importantly, this experience gave us a good lesson from the operator’s perspective. We realized what it was like to be an operator of ­equipment rather than a retailer or manufacturer. Our experience with the hands-on operation helped us gain ­knowledge practical knowledge about what was needed to make a laser tag operation successful day to day. On that basis, we developed a new type of laser tag game - LAZER RUNNER! Technology has come a long way.

We developed our own equipment and have opened sites throughout the world that we operate ourselves.

Our company recruited the brain trust of four of the very

best, most knowledgeable engineers in the industry to design our system. No expense was spared in obtaining the services of these experts. Our prototype system endured over 14 months of testing before ever being offered to anyone in another working environment. We put our equipment through more than 126,000 games, and it performed brilliantly with an absolute minimum of downtime! It is important to be aware of the many different styles of equipment offered by various laser tag manufacturers, and to understand the differences, both functionally and visually.

Laser tag equipment has two basic purposes: Transmit Information ~ Receive Infor­mation.

Transmitting and Receiving Information is accomplished electronically by Radio Frequency (RF), Infrared (IR), Laser, Fiber Optics or a combination of two or three of these methods. LAZER RUNNER uses a combination of Radio Frequency, Laser and Fiber Optic Technology in the transmission and receiving of information.

Radio Frequency (RF)

LAZER RUNNER has developed a RADIO FREQUENCY system that is like no other. Most RF systems are susceptible to interference causing game delays and poor communication. LAZER RUNNER is the only RF system that allows the operator to change channels automatically if interference is detected, allowing smooth trouble free laser tag play with no interruptions.

With the latest in micro technology, LAZER RUNNER uses a surface mount RF circuit board and internal antennae for transmission of critical data. This compact design is lightweight and eliminates the bulky circuitry and external antennas other RF laser tag manufacturers use. This makes the equipment much more durable.

Our engineers have studied past RF systems and their faults to develop a state-of-theart RF laser tag system that is reliable, easily programmable, and provides players with necessary key statistics and Real Time Scoring. You can even place TV monitors in the lobby or playing arena showing players’ scores and rankings in Real Time! The hassle of using a keyboard for all day to day operations has been eliminated and replaced with an easy to use Touch Screen Monitor with simple step-by-step instructions. The hardwiring of the arena peripherals has also been eliminated, reducing the time for set-up. The LAZER RUNNER RF system is ready to go right out of the box. All software is loaded right at the factory. EASY TO USE – EASY TO MAINTAIN!

Infrared (IR)

Infrared systems make up approximately 80 percent of all laser tag equipment, and can range from extremely poor to fair quality. The potential problems with IR technology are numerous.

With infrared systems there is, in essence, two beams that are utilized ~ a laser beam and an ‘invisible’ infrared beam. The laser beam in infrared systems does not transmit data and is used for visual purposes only! The infrared beam (similar to what is used on your TV remote), that does transmit data, is collimated to try to travel alongside the laser beam. Unfor­tunately this design has several flaws: (a) Infrared cannot be focussed to pinpoint accuracy thereby creating beams that vary from a few inches to several feet in diameter. What you aim at with your laser is not always what you hit with your IR beam and (b) these beams can become un­aligned causing even greater error in targeting accuracy and operation of the system. These beams need to be regularly maintained and realigned. (c) targeting range is limited; (d) the possibility of stray signals is very high (players deactivated by IR that has bounced off walls or ceilings) and (e) game turnaround time is slow due to the time consuming downloading process required at the end of each game.

Laser Transmission

LAZER RUNNER is the only laser tag system in the world that uses the actual laser beam for transmission of data. This is achieved through a low power (less than one milliwatt) laser diode. The benefit of this system is pinpoint accuracy. What you aim at is what you hit!

Best of all, the range of targeting is fantastic - with well over 500 foot capabilities! Serious laser tag players, of all ages, demand this range and accuracy.

This technology makes LAZER RUNNER the most challenging of all the laser tag systems. There are no false hits or misaligned beams often experienced with other laser tag systems. LAZER RUNNER keeps the players coming back for more!

LAZER RUNNER is a true laser tag system.

Targets (Receivers)

Targets on laser tag equipment can be found mounted on vests, waist belts and phasers. The targets are usually lit by flashing or glowing LED’s. Once targeted and deactivated, some equipment must be re-energized at a pod or a reactivation station.

Following months of research and data manipulation, we developed ad­van­ced fiber optic sensors to harness laser light. These optics were the first of their kind ever to be offered to the public through laser tag technology. By incorporating fiber optics, LAZER RUNNER has eliminated the need for extra circuitry. As a result we have reduced the weight and increased the ergonomic appeal of our vests.

Other laser systems require bulky receiver circuitry for each and every target area ~ front, back, shoulders, belts and phasers. These

target areas are usually raised and covered by clear plastic for protection. Unfortunately these ‘raised’ areas are highly prone to wear and damage resulting in poor reception of signals, inaccurate scoring and down time.

LAZER RUNNER has just one receiver board that does it all.

LAZER RUNNER fiber optic targets are mounted flush with the vest. This greatly eliminates costly maintenance. Our vests are noticeably clean and streamlined, allow pinpoint targeting accuracy, and are visually stunning.

The LAZER RUNNER fiber optic sensors can be programmed to be one of six colors. This means every single LAZER RUNNER vest is exactly the same. You choose the colors, you choose the teams. You are no longer limited to the number of red vests and green vests, but can program blue, red, green, purple, orange and yellow teams in any number of players you desire.

Above all, the fiber optic vests take punishment. High tech, lightweight and critically durable. Malfun­ction­ing vests translate to down time and lost revenue. Our equipment takes a beating and keeps on going!

Phaser (Laser Housing)

These hand-held units vary from two-handed machine gun styles, to hand-held phasers. Phasers are usually attached by a cord to their vest. These units can provide the player with sound effects, time remaining, player’s score and other statistics.

LAZER RUNNER uses hand held phasers. Hand held phasers are lighter in weight and more user friendly to customers of all ages than two handed units. Phasers also allow the customer to have one hand free to keep their balance when moving throughout the arena.

New Li-Ion Phaser Charging Module

Based on patented IC Intelligent Battery Charger Chip and a lithium ion battery pack, operators can fully charge their equipment in less than three hours.

This charge is good for more than 18 hours of continuous play. The Li-ion battery pack has distinct advantages over the NiMH including 20% more capacity with no memory effect.

All charging circuitry is located inside the charging module with colored, diagnostic LED’s to indicate the charge status of each vest.

New LAZER RUNNER Central Processing Unit (LRCPU) The LAZER RUNNER Central Processing Unit programs and accounts for every game played in an unlimited number of game scenarios. Every Battle Vest houses efficient fiber optics to register a hit, instead of traditional high maintenance, bulky receivers that are prone to breakage. The ergonomically designed Battle Phaser is lightweight, safe and durable. The Battle Phaser is manufactured with a super tough polymer plastic which can sustain a drop of over 6 feet. When in operation, the Battle Phaser has a unique two-stage switch allowing the player to aim and lock-on before firing, creating great special effects!

With a built-in alphanumeric dot matrix display, the player has the capability to observe the time, shots, and lives remaining during the game, as well as their personal score at the end of the game for quick comparison. The display also indicates the software version, the player number, and current channel selection for RF transmission.

The laser beam is generated from a solid state laser diode for greater accuracy, long life, and safe operation.

Our very popular and unique Continuous In­dividual Play system allows players to join in a game already in progress. Turnover is continuous, constantly evol­ving and action packed. LAZER RUNNER’s new score printing system offers all the statistics players are looking for. The score cards are visually stunning and easy to read. Since the LAZER RUNNER scoring system is performed in REAL TIME, the scorecards are printed immediately upon the games’ end. This means players are handed their scorecards when exiting the arena, allowing instant score comparisons with opponents.

The LAZER RUNNER Printer also records the five top scores to date with the player’s code name and score entered into the system.

The operator can select three different modes of scoring depending on the type of games being played; Team, Individual, Group or choose from the menu one of many game options available.
