The titles of these two new works illustrate themes running throughout Santa Fe Pro Musica’s 44th season—that music has the power to literally “sing our troubles quiet” and open gates and pathways that we may have thought closed. From the sighing and longing of the strings in Dvořák’s Serenade which opens our season in October, to the tortured ecstasy of Janáček’s take on Tolstoy’s novella The Kreutzer Sonata in our season finale in May, love carries us through the year and takes on multiple sonic forms.
—Aaron Helgeson
This season we are graced with the return of the internationally acclaimed Cuarteto Casals, Danish and Diderot String Quartets Brooklyn Rider brings StarCrossed—a themed program referencing epic love stories. Our Bach Festival continues to bring joy and spiritual exploration to the holiday season with the complete Goldberg Variations, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, a celebration of the 90th birthday of Arvo Pärt, and the luminous voice of soprano Sherezade Panthaki. Youth takes center stage for Mozart’s birthday with teenage brothers Gabriel and Rafael Ingliss joined by the brilliant young conductor Micah Gleason. Our spring orchestra concert explores colorful Southwestern and 1930’s Depression Era stories through music by the Academy Award–winning film composer Dave Grusin, and others. The virtuoso pianist and frequent Pro Musica guest Conrad Tao joins us for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and New York Philharmonic principal clarinetist Anthony McGill premieres Gabriel Kahane’s new rhapsody.
We invite you to join us along the way, sing your troubles quiet, and let music swing wide the gates!
