2020–21 Season
Welcome to the 39th Season!
May 12, 2020—At the time of writing this note, I have been with Santa Fe Pro Musica for 12 weeks. A very interesting 12 weeks! But what’s most important to say is that I admire Pro Musica’s values. When concerts were suspended, the Pro Musica board immediately expressed concern for the musicians who would lose work. Over one weekend the Musicians' Emergency Fund was established, and in April Pro Musica musicians received their full artist fees.
You, our audience members, are as much in our thoughts. Every day we think about how to protect you, the musicians, volunteers, and staff when concerts resume. We’re excited to share plans for next season: the scope of programs and the new collaboration with Anne-Marie McDermott, our Artistic Director Designate! You’ll notice that our season starts later than usual, in November with the Dover Quartet, and builds to a grand event, Haydn’s The Creation, in April. In the meantime we'll continue to nurture our shared love of music. Stay tuned for innovations to come!
Mary G. Madigan, Executive Director

Announcing Anne-Marie McDermott, Santa Fe Pro Musica's Artistic Director Designate
Santa Fe Pro Musica is delighted to introduce you to artistic director designate Anne-Marie McDermott. Most of us know her as an internationally acclaimed concert pianist and chamber musician, and over the past five years she has become a regular and beloved soloist with the Pro Musica Orchestra. You might also know of her extraordinary skills as an artistic director, most notably at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival where her creative vision has been spectacularly successful.
McDermott’s vision for Pro Musica is to build upon, deepen, and expand the legacy of co-founder Thomas O’Connor by infusing the organization with vibrant new leadership and music making at the highest levels. She states that this “is a thrilling time for the organization, and I could not be more excited, inspired, and honored about guiding its path forward artistically.” With her leadership and artistic vision, Santa Fe Pro Musica’s upcoming seasons are not to be missed!

Anne-Marie McDermott, pianist and the artistic director designate of Santa Fe Pro Musica, is an internationally acclaimed artist who balances a versatile career as a soloist, chamber musician, and artistic director. You can find her wearing some or all these hats in Santa Fe; Mostly Mozart Festival, New York; Aspen Music Festival and Bravo! Vail Music Festival, Colorado; and many other places.
It is significant to note that Santa Fe Pro Musica is led by an all-woman team of artistic and executive leaders. Co-Founder Carol Redman leads the Baroque Ensemble. Artistic Director Designate Anne-Marie McDermott soon will lead the Orchestra and String Works Series. Executive Director Mary G. Madigan leads the organization, and the entire administrative team is staffed by women.

She has written music for the Kronos Quartet, the symphonies of Seattle and Baltimore, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and others. She studied at The Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music, and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Linda Hogan (Chickasaw) is a poet, storyteller, playwright, novelist, essayist, and short story writer. She has received many prizes including the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry, an American Book Award, and was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize for Letters, Drama & Music.

Kathryn Mueller, soprano, initiated this commission project. She grew up at the edge of Arizona’s White Mountain Apache Reservation. Thank you for your patience and support. We will keep you informed as plans develop, and we look forward to seeing you!
