IN CLASSICAL MUSIC, THE CODA (from the Italian word “tail”) is the concluding section of a piece or movement. It serves to round out, conclude, or summarize what has come before. It certainly reflects back on past events, but often it eagerly looks forward, as if the composer has one more trick to show you! One thing about codas—expect the unexpected!
