ENVIRONMENTALLY-SENSITIVE AREAS: ESA’s are identified by red stakes with green tops and defined by red lines. Entry into and/or play from these area’s is prohibited. If it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in an ESA, the player must, under penalty of one stroke, proceed under Rule 26-1. If the players ball is through the green and the ESA interferes with the players stance or area of intended swing, the player may drop a ball within one club length of his nearest point of relief that is not nearer the hole, avoids interference from the ESA and is not in a hazard or on a putting green.

BREAKING TIES: In the event of a tie for the Overall Champion, a sudden death playoff will begin immediately after the completion of play on holes determined by the committee. All other ties will result in a splitting of the purse.

LATERAL WATER HAZARDS: Lateral water hazards are defined by red lines. In the absence of a red line and where bulkhead or stonewall boundaries are present, the inside (golf course) edge of the bulkhead defines the margin of the hazard. Dropzones are available on holes #3, #8, and #14.

IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS: Railroad ties that border the cart path areas, wooden fences through the green, and the rock wall to the right of hole #18 are deemed to be immovable obstructions. A player may take relief under rule 24-2. The area to the right of hole #9 is deemed to be Ground Under Repair and is identified by a white line. Free relief is available.

Three short blasts of the siren will indicate that play may resume. If 75% of the field completes the event, then the event will become official.

OUT OF BOUNDS: In addition to item #9 on the SFPGA hard card white stakes, and the inside edge of all public roads are Out of Bounds. In addition, any ball coming to rest above the waters edge on the non golf course side of a lateral water hazard is considered out of bounds.

On August 29th, eight Past Presidents of the South Florida PGA visited the Section Office to meet with the current officers sharing stories from their time on the board and learning about the growth the Section has had over the last 40 years. Those who visited the office included: Roger Kennedy Sr. (83-85), Lynn Josephson (89-91), John Nelson (99-01), Mike McLellan (01-03), Tom Wildenhaus (03-05), Jim Kurtzeborn (05-07), Brian Peaper (11-13), and Mark VanDyck (15-17). We would like to thank all our Past Presidents for their service over the years.

FALL TEAM GOLF We are so excited to kick off our fall season of Team Golf! There are five events in each league; Palm Beach, Broward and Lee & Collier. PGA HOPE PROGRAMS ARE IN FULL SWING! Two of our PGA HOPE programs are off and running! HOPE Plantation had their first lesson this past Saturday and HOPE West Palm Beach participants recently got on the course at Okeeheelee Golf Course during their third week of lessons. Between the two courses over twenty veterans are receiving free golf lessons from local PGA Professionals.

However, we could use your help providing for our nationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s heroes. We are always collecting golf clubs, bags and clothes for our PGA HOPE participants. If you or your facility has any of these items to donate please contact Michelle Goda at mgoda@pgahq.com.

2019 RULES OF GOLF WORKSHOP REGISTRATION OPENS TOMORROW With the modernization to the Rules of Golf coming in 2019, the Florida State Golf Association will be hosting nearly 60 One-Day Workshops starting in October of 2018 and going through March of 2019. DRIVE, CHIP AND PUTT HEADS TO REGIONALS Drive, Chip and Putt has come to an end for the South Florida Section. A total of 1,003 kids competed in qualifiers all over south Florida and 32 participants will be moving on to compete at TPC Sawgrass on September 29th in the Drive Chip and Putt Regional Competition. Thank you to all of our volunteers and host facilities for helping us conduct these incredible events this year!

PGA JUNIOR LEAGUE SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE PGA Jr. League is wrapping up their season this weekend at the PGA Jr. League Section Championship on Saturday. 500 juniors competed this summer in leagues all throughout south Florida. On Sunday August 19th, 90 of those juniors, forming 9 teams, were selected to be all stars and compete in the PGA Jr. League Section Championship Qualifier. The top 4 teams from this qualifier; Indian River Golf Foundation, Sandhill Crane, Palm Beach County, and Stoneybrook/Tiburon/Forest, advanced and will be competing at our Section Championship this Saturday at Turtle Creek Club. One team will be moving on to represent South Florida at the PGA Jr. League Regional Championship at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL on September 22nd - 23rd .

GILES AND KEATING CAPTURE 2018 SOUTH FLORIDA JUNIOR OPEN On July 11th-13th, the South Florida PGA Junior Tour held the 2018 South Florida Junior Open at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club. This 54-hole Junior Major featured South Florida’s top junior golfers. Garrett Giles of Stuart, FL captured the overall boys title after an impressive three days. PREP TOUR EVENT #7 The South Florida PGA Junior Prep Tour presented by The Honda Classic held the seventh Prep Tour Event at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club on July 14th. DRIVE, CHIP AND PUTT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! OZA & MCLEAN WIN THE YAMAHA/CALLAWAY PRO-PRO CHAMPIONSHIP Rushi Oza, PGA Teaching Professional and Jon McLean, Teaching Associate both from The Jim McLean Golf School Miami at The Biltmore Hotel are this year's Pro-Pro Champions. At the conclusion of the final round, three teams found themselves tied atop the leaderboard at -17 (126). Oza and McLean birdied the first playoff hole to take home the trophy! ALL THINGS JUNIOR GOLF The South Florida PGA Junior Golf programs have been in full swing this summer.

The Junior Golf department provides a variety of opportunities for juniors compete and enhance their skills including: Drive, Chip, and Putt Local Qualifiers, Prep Tour Events, Challenge Tour Events, Championship Tour Events, and Three Junior Tour Majors.

With a strong finish to summer, there is a lot to look forward to during the Fall season when Team Golf in Broward, Lee/Collier, and Palm Beach County kick off. Each county will have five events with a Team Golf Championship Event in November to crown the Team Champions across all counties.

We are excited to see such great participation across all South Florida PGA Junior programs this summer and continue to look for growth opportunities moving forward. CLUB BENCHMARKING HURRICANE SUMMARY Florida clubs were hit hard by extreme weather in 2017. In order to create a thorough and accurate documentation of the storm’s impact on member clubs, the Florida Chapter of CMAA (FLCMAA) partnered with Club Benchmarking and the National Club Association (NCA) to create a comprehensive survey to capture key findings about the experiences of clubs across the state in preparing for and recovering from a natural disaster.
