A MESSAGE FROM OUR
Dear Friends, Families, and Supporters of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools,
It is a privilege to address you as Apostolic Administrator for the Diocese of Sioux Falls, while Bishop Donald DeGrood is temporarily away. I am honored to return to the diocese where I was raised and first served, and I do so with a deep sense of gratitude.
Among the most cherished of those ministries is Catholic education. One of the greatest gifts we can offer our children is the opportunity to know and walk with Jesus Christ. Everything we do in Catholic schools flows from that sacred foundation. In Christ, we find freedom from fear and sin, and freedom for a life of purpose, joy, and love.
For generations, the Church has recognized that education is not merely about information, but formation – forming the heart, mind, and soul of young people in faith, wisdom, and virtue. Here in Sioux Falls, we are blessed with a vibrant Catholic school system where students encounter Christ daily - in the classroom, on the field, and in their relationships.
Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools exemplifies this mission. Year after year, students excel academically and personally, guided by dedicated educators who model a Christ-centered life. But more than academic success, these schools nurture souls. They cultivate a deep sense of wonder, truth, and holiness that equips young people to live as faithful disciples.
This annual report offers a glimpse into the vibrant life of our schools. It highlights students formed in virtue, families strengthened through community, and the generosity of so many who make this mission possible. Your prayers, service, financial support, and advocacy are helping to shape a generation of missionary disciples prepared to bring the love of Christ to the world.
To all who support Catholic education in our diocese— parents, alumni, parishioners, benefactors, and educators - I extend my heartfelt thanks. Your commitment makes a real and lasting difference.
Please continue to keep Bishop DeGrood in your prayers, that he may experience healing and peace in the days ahead. May we all continue walking together in faith, with our eyes fixed on our ultimate goal: eternal life with God and one another.
Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Donald J. Kettler Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Saint Cloud Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Sioux Falls
SEE, I AM DOING SOMETHING NEW! NOW IT SPRINGS FORTH, DO YOU NOT PERCEIVE IT? IN THE WILDERNESS I MAKE A WAY, IN THE WASTELAND, RIVERS. Isaiah 43:19

4 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends,
Because of you, the mission of Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is alive and thriving. Your faith, generosity, and belief in Catholic education make it possible for us to form young people who know Christ, live their faith, and make a positive impact on the world with His love.
This past May, we celebrated a beautiful milestone: the graduation of 153 young men and women, each ready to go forth as disciples of Christ, carrying with them the values, knowledge, and faith foundation they received here. Their journeys — and the lives they will touch — are part of your legacy. You are an integral part of their story, and we are profoundly grateful.
We continue to operationalize the Anchored in Our Faith strategic plan — a bold, faith-filled vision that strengthens Catholic identity, ensures academic excellence, and fosters stewardship for generations to come. The future is bright, and we are excited to move forward, confident that God is working through each of us to transform lives.
On behalf of the entire Bishop O’Gorman family, thank you. Your prayers, your gifts, and your unwavering support make all of this possible. You are making an eternal difference, and we hold you in our daily prayers of gratitude. Together, we are building something truly remarkable — not just a school system, but a community of faith, hope, and love.

We look forward to sharing more with you in the months ahead as we continue this journey, and we hope you share our excitement for all that God has in store for Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools.
With heartfelt gratitude and joy,

Both organizations are working together to build a community of faith and learning for students today and in the future by promoting Gospel values and academic excellence.

A MESSAGE FROM THE A MESSAGE FROM
Dear Friends,
As I reflect on the past year, I am filled with deep gratitude for the generous spirit that continues to define our community. Whether through gifts of time, talent, or treasure, your support has been a beacon of hope, helping us carry out our mission with purpose and compassion.
Your contributions, big and small, have made an immeasurable impact. From volunteering at events to supporting our initiatives financially, you have lived out the call to serve others with humility and love. For that, I am profoundly thankful. As we practice patience and quiet trust in God’s timing and will, we are reminded He has been faithful. We see His guidance as our community continues to thrive, grow, and overcome challenges with grace.
Thank you for believing in our mission. Thank you for giving so freely. May we continue to walk this journey with open hearts and a shared hope for all that is yet to come.
With gratitude,
Liz Myscofski Development Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,
On behalf of the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools Foundation, we offer our heartfelt thanks for your continued generosity and prayerful support. Our gratitude for your faithful stewardship is both heartfelt and humbling. Because of you, Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools continues to be a beacon of academic excellence rooted in faith.
As good stewards of your gifts and in response to the growing needs of our schools, we have begun to embark on the early stages of a large-scale fundraising campaign. This effort will allow us to build upon the strong foundation so many have worked to establish and ensure that Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools remains vibrant, accessible, and Christ-centered for decades to come. We look forward to sharing more with you as this exciting effort unfolds.
We believe giving is more than a transaction – it is an act of love and a reflection of faith. As St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” Your generosity is a beautiful testament to that spirit. It enables life-changing experiences for students and families, inspires our educators, and brings hope to a community that continues to grow in faith and excellence.
Thank you for walking alongside us. Together, through your generous hearts and steadfast belief in Catholic education, we are forming lives, enriching futures, and building God’s Kingdom – one student at a time.
With sincere appreciation,
Nicole R. Bruning, MBA, CFRE Executive Director

• The target asset allocations for the investment portfolio are set forth in the table.
• To maintain the proper allocation, it is the policy of the Foundation to periodically rebalance the portfolio in the event any asset class allocation differs by more than 20% of the stated target.

THE JARDING FAMILY’S ENDURING COMMITMENT TO CATHOLIC
EDUCATION
18 A LEGACY OF FAITH, FAMILY, & GIVING
A Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools Annual Report Story
By John Stassi ‘11
For the Jarding family, generosity is not just tradition, it’s a reflection of their Catholic faith, family values, and lifelong dedication to nurturing future generations. James P. and JoNell Jarding have long been foundational figures within the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools community. Since 1975, there have only been two school years when James and JoNell didn’t have a child or grandchild enrolled. But their impact goes far beyond involvement, it lives on through the legacy they have built and the spirit of giving they have passed on to their children and grandchildren.
what it means to give with purpose together.
Family Roots and Catholic Values
James and JoNell Jarding’s story began in the small town of Alexandria, South Dakota, a place where everything revolved around church, school, and family. James’ father was a farmer, and JoNell’s father owned a grain elevator. Their rural upbringing, steeped in simplicity and community, shaped the way they would later raise their own family.
Though James originally wanted to stay on the farm, his mother, a schoolteacher, encouraged him to attend Dakota Wesleyan University where he studied to become a Certified Public Accountant. JoNell pursued nursing at Presentation College-McKennan Hospital School of Nursing. The two eventually settled in Sioux Falls where James continued his career in accounting. Not long after, they welcomed their first child, Jim Jr., and JoNell became a full-time stay-at-home parent. Their family grew to include three children—Jim Jr., Julie, and Jennifer—all of whom attended Christ the King Elementary, O’Gorman Junior High, and O’Gorman High School.

What began with a single act of generosity, the James P. and JoNell Jarding Family Scholarship, has blossomed into a family-wide mission. Their family’s story is a testament of faith in action, an enduring devotion to Catholic education, and a powerful reminder of
Faith and education were always at the center of their parenting. The decision to enroll their children in Catholic schools was driven by a desire to give them something even more meaningful. “I told Jim, ‘I would have given anything to go to a Catholic school.’ So, we gave it a try,” said JoNell. “It just sort of fell into place. It was a true community.”

The sense of community deepened as the family grew more involved. James served on the school board, eventually as president, and helped develop foundational systems for managing school finances. JoNell also contributed in quieter ways, often behind the scenes in parish and school volunteer roles. The couple raised their children with clear expectations, strong discipline, and an unwavering commitment to faith. For example, when traveling for sports, Mass was non-negotiable. “Even if the kids had to go in their dirty softball uniforms, we never missed Mass,” JoNell shared. “That was important to us.”
Founding the First Scholarship
As the Jarding children grew up and started families of their own, they chose to honor the example their parents had set—not with words, but with action. To celebrate James and JoNell’s 40th wedding anniversary, their three children established the James P. and JoNell Jarding Family Scholarship as a lasting tribute to their parents’ sacrifices and unwavering commitment to faith, family, and education. “We wanted to commemorate everything our parents had done for us,” said Jim Jr. “Forming the scholarship fund was our way of saying thank you.”
The scholarship was both a surprise and a reflection of the values the Jardings had instilled in their children: hard work, generosity, and faith in action. “It was impressive to us,” James said. “They could have put it in their own names, and we’d have
been proud of that. But they didn’t, they wanted it to be for us.” The hope, they say, is simple: to make it just a little easier for families to choose Catholic education. “It’s hard now,” JoNell said. “When you see families with several kids, both parents working, and everything’s expensive... we just hope it helps. O’Gorman has been so good to us. We wanted to help someone else experience that too.”
For the Jardings, giving back wasn’t a dramatic act, it was something modeled through everyday choices: donating through the gift card program, contributing to church each Sunday, and volunteering time and talents wherever needed. “It just kind of grew,” said JoNell. “When we started out, we didn’t have a thing. We lived in a duplex with one car. But O’Gorman always had ways you could help.”
The Lasting Impact of Catholic Education on the Jarding Family
Looking back, James and JoNell credit Bishop O’Gorman for helping build the solid foundation that allowed their children and grandchildren to succeed. “They went to Catholic school. That’s how they got here,” James said. “They learned to work, and we made sure they did.”
From teachers who personally guided Julie through college scholarship applications to those who stayed long enough to teach multiple generations of Jardings, the couple recalls countless ways Catholic education made an impact. “The teachers take time for each individual child,” said JoNell. “They push them in the right ways. They really care.”
JoNell was struck by many teachers’ lasting presence. That sense of dedication has continued through the years; when their grandchildren began attending St. Michael Elementary, JoNell recognized at least three teachers who had once taught her own children at Christ the King Elementary, still faithfully serving the community.
A Legacy Continued: The Next Generation Steps In
For Jim Jr. and his wife, Megan Jarding, giving back to Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools isn’t just about honoring the past, it’s about building a better future for the educators shaping tomorrow’s leaders. High school sweethearts and proud O’Gorman High School alumni—Jim from the Class of 1987 and Megan from the Class of 1988—the couple has three children, Mitchell, Maggie, and Maverick, all of whom graduated from O’Gorman High School. This fall, their first grandchild, Briggs, will start at St. Michael Elementary.

BISHOP O’GORMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION
ENDOWMENT FAQ INFO
What is an endowment?
An endowment is a special gift to the Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools Foundation that keeps giving forever. Instead of being spent all at once, the gift is invested, and each year a portion of the investment earnings is used to support our schools. The original gift amount (called the principal) is never spent—this ensures the endowment continues to grow and support Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools for generations to come.
Can I choose how my gift is used?
Absolutely! If you create a new endowment, you can decide what area you’d like it to support—such as teacher salaries, tuition assistance, facility upgrades, or specific programs like athletics, music, or the arts.
When you make your gift, we’ll work with you to create a simple agreement that outlines your wishes. The Foundation is required to honor how you want your gift to be used.
How are endowment funds invested?
The Foundation partners with the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota to invest endowment funds. Investments follow Catholic values and responsible investment guidelines, so you can feel confident your gift aligns with your faith.

OVER A LONG CAREER AT O’GORMAN HIGH SCHOOL, MY FAVORITE MEMORIES WOULD BE OF THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIPS THAT I’VE BEEN ABLE TO GARNER WITH STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT IS ALWAYS HEARTWARMING TO CROSS PATHS WITH FORMER STUDENTS AND TO HEAR THEM REMINISCE ABOUT THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES FROM BEING A PART OF THE BISHOP O’GORMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOLS COMMUNITY AND THE PROFOUND IMPACT THAT A CATHOLIC EDUCATION HAS MADE ON THEIR LIVES.

IN YOUR HANDS, O LORD, WE HUMBLY ENTRUST OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS. IN THIS LIFE YOU EMBRACED THEM WITH YOUR TENDER LOVE; DELIVER THEM NOW FROM EVERY EVIL AND BID THEM ETERNAL REST.
THE OLD ORDER HAS PASSED AWAY: WELCOME THEM INTO PARADISE, WHERE THERE WILL BE NO SORROW, NO WEEPING OR PAIN, BUT FULLNESS OF PEACE AND JOY WITH YOUR SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT FOREVER AND EVER. Amen.
