HSE Corner: “Promoting Process Safety Management”
The theme for the Quarter is “Promoting Process Safety Management”.

ORIGIN OF PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT
The Bhopal accident of 1984 and Piper Alpha Accident of 1988 along with other catastrophic incidents with dire consequences to people, environment, assets, and reputation have considerably changed safety management procedures and legislations in the oil and gas industry globally.
Subsequent to these incidents, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in 1990 published standards for Process Safety Management. This standard comprises of a comprehensive program which integrates technologies, procedures and practices associated with highly hazardous chemicals and hydrocarbon to aid the improvement of safety in the workplace. In Nigeria, some of these regulations were developed for the same purpose: Labour Act of 1974, The Factory Act 1987, Mineral Oils Safety Regulations (MOSR) 1997, Workmen compensation Act 2010 and the Petroleum (Drilling and Production) Regulation 1969.
