Machine Tool Technology at Seward County Community College What is Machine Tool Technology?
Machine tool technology students transform raw materials, like steels, aluminum, bronze, copper, composites and plastics, into working parts and assemblies. A machinist sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. They fit and assemble machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and layout techniques. This self-paced, performance based curriculum lets you learn in a hands-on environment, with up to date equipment such as bench and hand tools and machine tools, including engine lathes, vertical mills, drill presses, grinders and computercontrolled machines.

The machine tool technology program at SCCC prepares students for employment within the tool-making/machining industry. Some areas of opportunity include: general machinist, CNC operator, CNC machinist, CNC programmer, manufacturing technician, quality control technician, assembly technician, and manufacturing engineer.
