Corrosion Technology

Corrosion Technology at Seward County Community College What is Corrosion Technology?

Corrosion technology is a far reaching field including energy infrastructure, transportation systems, national defense, and more. Corrosion technicians install, maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot facilities. Students in the SCCC corrosion technology program learn in both the classroom and a state-of-the-art outdoor pipeline and field laboratory setting. The laboratory includes an above ground storage tank, an underground storage tank, simulated well bore, intricate pipeline lab attached to a state-of-the-art control panel, and an anode bed. With courses in basic electricity and circuits, mechanisms of corrosion, basic metallurgy, surveying, sketching and drafting, federal code regulations, and more, SCCC corrosion technology students complete their studies with the solid foundation necessary to be successful in their field.

Certificate and Degree Options Available

Associate of Applied Science: 65-credit program (2 years) Certificate of Completion: 33-credit program (1 year)

Career Opportunities

Corrosion of metal surfaces will never stop, but with technology corrosion can be controlled and monitored. The job market for corrosion technicians is broad and growing rapidly. Graduates of the SCCC corrosion technology program have the opportunity to work in energy infrastructure, transportation systems, national defense, and other areas where oxidation occurs and requires monitoring and maintenance.
