Colvin Adult Learning Center Located at 930 N. Kansas Avenue, the Colvin Adult Learning Center offers a variety of services for students needing adult basic education courses before moving forward with college level courses. With a mission of providing opportunities to improve and enhance the quality of life through education, thus allowing students to become more productive members of the community, the Colvin Adult Learning Center has the following options for students to pursue: GED Testing: Students are able to enroll to earn a Kansas High School Diploma through GED testing offered in both a Spanish or English GED program. The GED, or General Educational Diploma, is an educational option for individuals who have not received a High School Diploma. Students study for and learn information to help them pass a set of tests, that once passed certificy that the student has knowledge of the academic skills necessary in language arts/ writing, language arts/reading, social studies, science, and mathematics. Accepted by more than 95% of U.S. employers, colleges, and universities, the GED is a pathway to furthering an education or career. English as a Second Language (ESL): Courses assist students seeking to improve their English skills. Students new to the United States also benefit from cultural content instructors include in language study. These activities may include introduction to national and local holiday traditions such as Halloween trick-or-treating and jack ‘o lanterns, Thanksgiving dinner, and Liberal’s own Pancake Day. Work Readiness: Students learn employable skills, effective time management and life skills, and are able to participate in citizenship preparation courses. Computer labs for individual language study, as well as a digital literacy class, provide additional skills for students, whether they are re-entering the workforce after years away, or encountering the U.S. Business culture for the first time. Accelerating Opportunity - Kansas (AO-K): A co-enrollment program allowing students to enroll to earn their high school diploma while also enrolling in one of the six AO-K pathways. Pathways include: EMT, healthcare, welding, machining, process technology, and CDL truck driving. Please see the following pages for more information about the AO-K program offered at the Colvin Adult Learning Center. This program is available at no cost to students who qualify, and who are currently enrolled in GED classes. As part of Kansas’ pioneering of the A-OK program, the Colvin Center is a leader in the state and the nation for successful student completion rates.

AO-K Program at Colvin Adult Learning Center Do you need your GED or want to work on your adult basic education skills? Are you interested in started college level classes at the same time you are working toward earning your GED or improving your adult basic education skills? The Accelerating Opportunities in Kansas (AO-K) program offers educational support and substantial tuition waivers as a way to help you achieve your employment goals. Exciting opportunities are available in Health Care, Advanced Manufacturing, Welding, CDL Truck Driving, Emergency Medical Technician, and Process Technology. According to the Kansas Board of Regents, “Accelerating Opportunity changes the way adult basic education is delivered by putting adult students on track to earn a postsecondary credential, seize the opportunity to ear family-sustaining wages, and break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.� Students who are receiving or eligible for TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) may be eligible to receive scholarships for completing 12-hour career pathways. AO-K Program at Colvin Adult Learning Center As the first responders at medical emergencies, EMT’s are an integral part of the emergency response team providing efficient and immediate care to ill and injured individuals.
