CELEBRATING OUR CULTURAL DIVERSITY Harmony Day is a key day on our College calendar. Staff and students celebrate the rich cultural diversity that is Sevenoaks in a festival like atmosphere. This year, our festival was opened with a Welcome to Country by Kayleen Haywood and a dance by our Clontarf boys who brought the Noongar culture to the stage.
The key message being, that we all need to live together in harmony as part of the Sevenoaks community – our cultural backgrounds are all different but first and foremost we need to respect each other for who we are
There were many highlights from the day, including: the students who took the time to wear their national costumes showcasing their heritage and culture; our traditional international flag display; Akwaaba traditional African drummers and their inclusive workshop and performance on stage; Arty Umbrellas (the display lives on in our library); Westoz wildlife and their Australian animal collection that included a beautiful koala; Henna Tattooing; bead making by the students in Education Support; and the eclectic offering of international food by staff and students. As usual, our hospitality students provided a feast of international foods, served wearing their very smart new hospitality uniforms. The festival was a success due to the coming together of all staff and students to celebrate the rich multi-cultural melting pot that is Sevenoaks.
