XI SOUTHERN EUROPEAN VETERINARY CONFERENCE

9-11 November 2017

BARCELONA

BARCELONA, Spain

• A 3-day meeting • 5,000 professionals • Attendees from more than 40 countries • 80 international speakers • 120 lectures • 200 research abstracts received • 17 hands-on labs and workshops • Over 100 exhibitors • Simultaneous translation in all rooms

Barcelona’s location on the Mediterranean coast assures a warm, welcoming climate with pleasant temperatures all year round. The city boasts more than 5 kilometres of beaches, an Olympic marina, open-air restaurants, famous stores for shopping, and many street cafes. Absorb Barcelona’s wonderful history and bohemian atmosphere. Walk through the Gothic Quarter, one of the world’s best-preserved medieval areas, and the Ribera and Raval districts. The bustling streets and neighbourhoods can be easily explored by bus, by bicycle or on foot. Of course, if Barcelona is famous for any one thing, it is its buildings. Take the time to admire the city’s architectural masterpieces such as the Sagrada Familia and La Pedrera, created by Antoni Gaudí and other architects, and soak up Modernisme, the city’s home-grown Art Nouveau movement and all that Barcelona has to offer.

Canine abdominal ultrasonography: hands-on lab

Broaden your practice’s services: learn to perform the most frequent dental procedures

Learn how to obtain high quality images to make accurate ultrasound diagnoses. In this hands-on lab with live dogs, participants will practise locating abdominal organs with the guidance of experts.

This laboratory covers key points that will help a practitioner start a dental service or improve an existing service. In the laboratory, experts will teach dental information that will cover 70% of the services performed in dogs and cats. Also, laboratory participants, who will work in pairs on anatomical specimens using first-class equipment and instruments, will receive a copy of the Proceedings that includes additional materials. The lab will be divided into three modules. In the first module, “Diagnostic: Oral Clinical Assessment and Charting”, every participant will learn how to properly examine the oral cavity and evaluate occlusions using a chart. They will also receive a template of the dental chart and a poster with the occlusion evaluation. The second module, “Oral Prophylaxis”, will cover teeth scaling, polishing, sulcular lavage and other prophylactic applications. The goal of this workshop is to teach participants how to correctly carry out complete oral prophylactic procedures performed in 80% of dental patients. The third module, “Introduction to Canine and Feline Extractions”, will include anatomic presentations, step-by-step procedures, and surgical and non-surgical extraction standards. Participants will learn how to make extractions more easily and to avoid complications. When they complete the workshop, participants will be fully prepared to apply the dental skills they have learned. INSTRUCTORS: Dr. J. Gawor (POL), Dr. J. Thursday 9th CYTOLOGY

20 must-know tips and tricks of small mammal radiology

Everything you always wanted to know about cytology, but were afraid to ask

The radiographic diagnosis in exotic pets. Ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs

Put your microscope to use! Master the fundamentals of cytology, and learn how to diagnose a wide variety of pathologies. A practical and interactive lab.

Radiology is one of the common imaging diagnostic techniques in veterinary medicine. Radiographs provide very useful information of bones, but also of soft tissues such as lungs, heart, liver, intestine, and so on. Many clinical presentations, such as cough, dyspnea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal distension, disuria, need a radiologic examination to rule out causes and, in several cases it can confirm the diagnosis. Dental diseases are very common in rabbits and rodents, but can be difficult for owners to be detected because of the unusual clinical presentations. Skull radiographies are essential in the diagnosis of dental disease in these animals. Working in pairs in front of the computer, the participants learn how to carry out and interpret small mammal radiographies. There are a lot of anatomical references which allow discerning specific pathological changes. Furthermore, essential differences in between species will be remarked and special emphasis will be put on ferrets, rabbits and guinea pigs. INSTRUCTORS: Dr. J. Martorell (SPAIN) VENUE: Palacio de Congresos de Cataluña – Press Room 2, Level 1 TIME: 11.30 - 13.30 FEE: 180€ (140€ if you also register for the SEVC Scientific Programme)
