For compliance, some signs need to be made from Class 1 or 2 Reflective Aluminium for maximum visibility. These signs are designed to warn drivers where there is increased danger of an accident such as school and crossing areas. Signs are not the only means to help you control traffic. 1. Point of entry and orientation •

Ensure drivers understand the conditions of entry and can proceed safely and confidently in a clear direction.

Direct vehicle travel using clear, visible signage.

MAKE YOUR CAR PARK SAFER AND COMPLIANT. Use this handy checklist and advice to help identify the car park safety solutions you need to implement as part of the Indoor-Outdoor Safe Traffic Management for your office, factory or worksite. By controlling traffic and protecting pedestrians, you’ll reduce potential risks and hazards for workers, visitors and vehicles alike. Have you marked all entries and exits? All intersections need to be clearly signposted in order to avoid accidents.
Have you marked the ground, so drivers know which way and where to go? Stencil the ground to direct traffic and pedestrians. For a quick result, use a line marking machine for car spaces.
Is your car park susceptible to unwanted traffic? NO ENTRY and NO TURNING signs prevent traffic from entering your car park in error.

TRAFFIC MOVEMENT: CREATE SAFE INTERSECTIONS Are all intersections marked with STOP or GIVE WAY signs? Use clear signposts to direct drivers and avoid confusion and accidents.
Do you clearly mark where vehicles should stop at intersections? Clear stop line and stencil markings ensure drivers approach, stop and act safely.
Do you use mirrors wherever there’s a blind spot? Mirrors help drivers avoid collisions by providing excellent visibility for hard-to-see places.

TRAFFIC MOVEMENT: CONTROL SPEED Are drivers aware of the speed limit? Car park speed limits should be 15km/ph to avoid accidents.
Do you control the speed on long stretches of roadway in your car park? If your car park has a long stretch of road, you should install a speed hump every 10 metres. This ensures drivers keep to the speed limit. Make sure you warn them with SPEED HUMP warning signs.

PARKING & DISEMBARKING: DESIGNATE PARKING AREAS Have you properly designated NO PARKING spaces, DRIVEWAYS and CLEARWAYS? Keep specified areas clear to allow emergency vehicle access and ensure better pedestrian visibility.
Have you identified VISITOR PARKING spaces? VISITOR signs, stencils and yellow wheel stops help people know where to park.
Do you have enough disabled spaces and are they marked and compliant? Signs, stencils and blue wheel stops make accessible parking spaces easily identifiable.

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY & EMERGENCIES Do you have cones and barriers on hand for emergencies? Cones and barriers block hazardous or restricted areas. They’re ideal if you need to undertake maintenance or to have on hand for special events when you need to reserve parking spots.
Do you have clear and well-lit emergency exit signage and fire safety equipment? Drivers and pedestrians need to know where to go and what to do in the event of a fire or emergency.
