decussation NOUN
The action of crossing especially in the form of an X
The Decussation Gallerie, a project I worked on my first semester of my Second Year, was to be an art center, built on the Isle of Que, in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. The focus for this project was comprehensive design, or creating a piece of Architecture from start to finish. The main challenge of this project was to create Architecture in a flood plain. My focus for this project was to blur the threshold between land and water, and create a harmonious approach of the Art Center from both the water and land. This approach creates a moment of decussation for the person interacting with this archtiectural instillation. To deal with this decussation, as a designer, I employed various stragies which will unfold as you browse through the deliverables of this project.

A SYNTHESIS OF CENTRALITY THROUGH DISUNION
SITE PLAN (1” = 500’)
SECTION A (1/8” = 1’)
PARTIAL FACADE SECTION (1/2” = 1’)
SECOND FLOOR PLAN (1/8” = 1’)
USING HAJJAR’S GOVERNING PRINCIPLES OF A CENTRALIZED “SHOE BOX” DESIGN WITH A CONVERGING SPACE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VOLUME, THE INTENT FOR THESE APARTMENT SPACES ARE TO SYNTHESIZE THESE IDEAS THROUGH FRAGMENTING THE TRADITIONAL HAJJAR FORM. THESE SPACES WHICH PROMOTE CENTRALIZATION ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH USING CIRCULATION IN A INTEGRATED MANNER, WHICH EMPHASIZES THESE PRIMARY SPACES EMBEDDED IN THE CONTEXT OF THE OVERALL FORM OF THE APARTMENT COMPLEX AND UNITS

undulate VERB
To have a smoothly rising and falling form or outline
Fire Station #44 was a project I desinged in the first semester of my third year. This project truly pushed my limits and expanded my desing “toolkit” as well as the strategies I use as a designer. This project balanced site deisgn, heating cooling, and lighting requirements, structure, and sustainable building practices all under a common goal of Architectural Synthesis. This synthesis stemmed from re-inforcing my concept for this project, which was pushing private spaces and “pulling” public spaces to the street level of my Fire Station design through an undulating form connecting the private Apparatus Bay to the Public Community Museum. So, the concept that dicated the synthesis for this design was able to be articulated in my final desing through the same aspects of site deisgn, heating cooling, and lighting requirements, structure, and sustainable building practices.

2023 piranesi competion
The 2023 piranesi competition was a week long competition centered around adding a thermal bath addition to Villa Adriano in Roma, Italy.
My group’s addition to Villa Adriano centered around bridging the connection between the existing antiquarium and the new addition to the site of the thermal baths through “bridging” a cafe space between both of these structures, allowing for a piazza space underneath. These moves activate the mostly unused portion of the Villa Adriano site, as well as architecturally resolving the issue created with new construction on a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As well as the architectural intervention, this project also centered around a set of branding deliverbles, marketing the addition to Villa Adriano to the public. My group placed 1st in this competition.

cleaving VERB
To split or sever (something), especially along a natural line or grain.
The Baltimore Art House has a dual purpose program; a public geared community theatre, and an apartment complex for the creatives working in or helping facilitate the use of the public theater. Due to this complexity in program, the challenge, architecturally, is determining program layout. To resolve this problem, it seemed apparent to utilize the ground floor as a lobby and theatre program, with the apartment complex resting above the theater. However, to create efficient circulation and quality of life in these spaces, the apartment complex volume was cleaved and then rotated by 11 degrees to mimic the site boundary for visual clarity. This project centered around comprehensive design. Through this I focused on IBC building codes, HVAC layout, lighting schemes, passive building standards, structural schemes, and wall sections. All of these modern construction requirements were reflecting in my overall design.
