INTRODUCING a Future Full of HOPE Vision 2020: Focusing On Our Future is a capital expansion and refurbishment program designed to address key areas of current need and future growth at Church of the Servant. The campaign kick-off will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at all four services.

Scope of Projects – Addressing our Strategic Needs in PHASE ONE •

New Modern Worship & Multi-Use Ministry Space – The construction of a multi-use facility to be located on the south end of campus for modern worship, Servant Student activities, special events, and so much more throughout the week!

Servant Students – A complete remodel of the youth area providing a cohesive flow integrating the new multi-use facility.

Outdoor Sports Court – So much more than a gym! A full-size outdoor basketball/sports court located adjacent to the new worship/multi-use facility that will enable larger church and community gatherings throughout the year!

Celebration Center – A complete overhaul of the Celebration Center sound system including a “Hearing Loop” for individuals with hearing loss.

Main Concourse and Hospitality Areas – Updating of the Main Concourse including wayfair signage, guest services meet-and-greet space, and a new, more functional coffee shop.

Servant Kids – Continued renovations of the lower level Servant Kids area including Warm World, Starbright (Mother’s Day Out), and the Nursery.

Dear Friends, On Sunday, October 27, Church of the Servant had a very special day! That morning the “JAM” Kids Choir sang at the 9:30 Celebration Service bringing the congregation to their feet in applause to give thanks for the voices of the children and the hard work of our staff and volunteers. Later that day, our church came together to show our community we care about their children and that we would love to be part of their lives. Exceeding our wildest expectations, almost 3,000 people showed up for Servant Fall Fest and Trunk-or-Treat! Needless to say, I am blown away by what God is doing here at Church of the Servant.

As we enter into a stewardship campaign coupled with a season of new vision, I want to share with you what we hope to become as a church, because it is important you know what we are hoping, planning, praying, and giving toward. Working diligently over the past two years, our church staff and lay leadership have developed a vision of what we hope Church of the Servant will be by 2025.

By the year 2025, Church of the Servant will have become a: •

Worshipping congregation of 2500-3001 people each week.

Where 400 to 501 Kids & Students attend a vibrant and vital weekly experience.

•

Where 40% to 60% of the worshipping congregation is involved in the Discipleship Pathway.

•

Where 501 people have made a first-time commitment or re-commitment to become fully committed followers of Jesus Christ.

Your commitment to Church of the Servant helps make this future a reality. Now is the time to step out in faith and prepare for what God’s future holds at Church of the Servant. To help in this planning and preparation, please make sure we can count on you on November 17 as we celebrate commitment Sunday for the 2020 Ministry Budget and “Vision 2020: Focusing On Our Future”.

Christmas Festival - December 7th & 8th You are invited to join us for our 10th annual Christmas Festival on Saturday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 8 at 4:30 p.m. The concert will consist of time-honored Christmas classics performed by our Celebration Choir, Worship Orchestra, Adult & Youth Bell Choirs, and our newly-formed Kids Choir! The centerpiece of the evening will be a LIVE Nativity. Camels and Kings will all be here for this glorious night of worship and praise in honor of the birth of the Christ Child. Admission is FREE. All are welcome to attend!

“The Star” movie will be shown for kids in the Centrum on Sunday, December 8, 4:00-6:00 p.m.

The Christmas Festival – December 7th & 8th CASTING CALL: Christmas Festival Music Ministry is looking for volunteers for the Christmas Festival Service on December 7 at 7:00 p.m. and December 8 at 4:30 p.m. We are looking for adult volunteers to create an amazing LIVE Nativity. Walk Through Bethlehem - December 13th - 15th BACK THIS YEAR! Walk Through Bethlehem will take place on Friday and Saturday, December 13 and 14, 6:00-9:00 p.m., and on Sunday, December 15, 6:00-8:00 p.m. On these three special nights, part of the campus will be transformed into a far-away land and an immersive experience for God’s children of all ages. Walk Through Bethlehem will serve as a unique and special way to share the great story of the birth of Jesus.

During these three nights, you will have the opportunity to walk the streets of Bethlehem! The royal decree of Caesar Augustus will be fulfilled as all are counted in the census! You can attempt to check into King David’s Inn (is there a vacancy?). And as you stroll through the interactive, kid-friendly village bazaar, you will be transported back in time to the great story of the day of Christ’s birth. You can also experience a petting zoo at the Royal Stables, the Nativity, and so much more! Admission is FREE! No reservation needed.

As Church of the Servant prepares for this special season, you are invited to be a part of the cast and crew! Many cast members, crew, and hospitality volunteers are needed to make Walk Through Bethlehem a great success! One hundred volunteers are needed! You will not want to miss out on this wonderful time where the greatest story ever told comes to life! WOMEN’s MINISTRIES

W

omen’s Ministry has been active the last several months. In August, under the direction of our very own talented Emily Buckingham, a group of 50 women got together to share snacks and paint acorn wreaths to decorate their homes for fall. There was lots of laughter and chatter heard throughout the Community Hall that evening as each woman created a special acorn of her own design to take home and hang on her front door.

In October, a group of women met to enjoy desserts and a rousing game of Bunco with prizes awarded for most wins, most losses, most buncos and most baby buncos. Bunco is a great way for women to easily meet and mingle with others they may not know, because it’s fast paced and each woman is constantly changing partners and moving to different tables. And...who doesn’t love winning a prize?

Coming up on Saturday, November 23, is our Christmas Craft Saturday.

Most women are always looking for new and unique ways to decorate their homes for the holidays. Now is the chance to step outside your comfort zone and make something to enhance your home this Christmas.

Each woman attending will have the opportunity to either make an adorable angel out of wooden logs under

the direction of Shauna Gerlach, or to learn to do an acrylic pour to create a beautiful, colorful Christmas tree and some Christmas ball ornaments under the supervision of Pat Travis.

Either choice will be a beautiful addition to someone’s home during the holiday season. The Christmas Craft Saturday event will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. To sign up, go to ServantOKC.org/Events and choose the project which interests you. The cost

is $40 per person to cover all materials needed. The deadline for signup is Sunday, November 17. Women who choose to do the acrylic pour are advised to wear an apron or wear old clothes, because it is possible that you might end up with paint in places other than your tree! ADVENT LIGHTS UP CHRISTMAS:

2-Part Advent Series – Sundays, December 1st & 8th The church I grew up in was not at all liturgical, so I really did not know anything about Advent until I got to seminary. What I learned in my seminary worship class made Christmas come alive in totally new ways – so much more than sentimentality about a baby “away in a manger.” So, now I say: “Advent lights up Christmas” for me. – Dr. Stephen Gunter.

In this 2-part series, we will explore how Advent can LIGHT UP CHRISTMAS for you in 2019.

New Ostomy Support Group What is an ostomy? An ostomy is an artificial opening in an organ of the body, created during an operation such as a colostomy, ileostomy, or gastrostomy; a stoma.

Are you living with an ostomy? Do you think you are alone and have no one to talk to about questions that arise regarding your ostomy? Come to our Ostomy Support Group. We have an Ostomy Nurse at every meeting to answer your questions and concerns. In addition, you will meet other ostomates who will share their stories and helpful ideas.

Our first meeting will be Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the South Adult Center, Room 1.

FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY

Coming January 15, 2020!

Does the topic of finances ever come up in your home or is it avoided at all costs? What does the financial future look like for you and your family? Discussing finances, developing budgets, and creating a financial plan for your life can be difficult if you don’t know the steps to take.

Every year, Church of the Servant offers a 9-week course called Financial Peace University (FPU) that will teach you the financial steps to take! It teaches God’s ways of handling money. This is a class in which millions of people have taken. They have pulled worries off their shoulders and put on confidence. They have rewritten their futures and secured their futures. On average those families have paid off $5,300 in debt and saved $2,700 in the first 90 day!

Are you ready to carve out 9 weeks in your schedule to learn the steps to get where you want to be? You can do it! You just need a plan.

Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more!

FPU will be held at Church of the Servant from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. beginning Wednesday, January 15 through March 11, 2020. Tom McGee and Peter Weaver will be instructing the 9-week event. For more information and to register, go to ServantOKC.org/Events.

God’s Blueprint for Bible Prophecy

A New Inductive Study Series on the Book of Daniel Does the turmoil in our times, the uprisings and the spiritual decay of many have anything to do with the Book of Daniel? Daniel was a man who knew what God said about the end times. He focused on what God said, not the events of his own time. He had an impact on the people that God placed in his life.

How do you live as a Daniel in the crucial days in which you find yourself? How can you dare to be different? How do you get to know God Most High? The Book of Daniel has the answers! Though you don’t know what tomorrow holds, you do know who holds tomorrow. The Book of Daniel will strengthen your faith in our steadfast God. This Inductive Study on the book of Daniel will be held in the North Adult Center, room 12 on Wednesdays, January 15 – April 15, 2020 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Register by Sunday, December 20 at ServantOKC.org/BibleStudies.

TRemembrance REE THE REMEMBRANCE TREE: If you have recently lost a loved one, we know you are painfully aware that the holidays won’t be the same as years before. We all handle this kind of loss in different ways. Some old traditions may need to fall by the wayside, and new traditions emerge to provide healing for a joyful and meaningful holiday.

You and your family can remember and honor your loved ones this Christmas by inscribing their name on a beautiful blue ornament and hanging it on the white Remembrance tree that will be located at the window near Earthglow in the Main Concourse, beginning December 1. Perhaps you might want to do that after a church service, or you and your family might decide to do that with a special visit to the church. What a meaningful way to honor your dear one this Christmas season.

LOOK WHAT WE DID...

SERVANT FALL FEST WOW!!! Servant Fall Fest & Trunk-or-Treat was outstanding this year! We had beautiful weather and a record turnout. We had inflatables, games, trunk-or-treating, face painting, balloon animals, hot dogs, a bake sale, and more! The fireworks were an incredible ending to our night. Lots and lots of people brought baked goods for the bake sale and the cakewalk. We made around $1,600 for children’s ministries from the sale of the hot dogs, baked goods, popcorn, and cotton candy. Many people volunteered their cars and time totaling 48 trunks to make Trunk-or-Treat a HUGE success!

We collected packages of wipes and diapers for Infant Crisis Services. Thank you to all who volunteered, donated, sponsored, and participated in any way! We couldn’t have done it without you. See you all next year!

MOVIE NIGHT We had fun at our second family movie night on October 4th. Kids and their families gathered in the Centrum to watch The Smurfs.

We even had some special “Smurf popcorn” as part of our movie time snack. Be on the lookout for the date of our next family movie night and join us!

NOVEMBER HAPPENINGS...

BUBBLE FACTORY

EVERY SUNDAY MORNING IN NOVEMBER AGES 3 YEARS THROUGH KINDERGARTEN “Can you say thank you?” How many times will a child be asked that question in their preschool years? We ask them again and again because we want to help them learn to be thankful. This month is all about saying thank you. In fact, we are going to be bubbling over with thankfulness with our Bubble Factory theme. Throughout the month, preschoolers will learn to be thankful for their family, friends, and food.

And, they’ll learn that saying, “Thank you” is just as important as being thankful.

Imagine the preschoolers in your church learning to tell God thank you – for EVERYTHING – all while having fun with their small group leaders and friends. Imagine them growing up giving thanks to the Lord with their WHOLE heart.

Our memory verse this month comes from Psalm 111:1 and says, “I WILL GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD WITH MY WHOLE HEART.” Who can you thank for everything? I can thank God for everything! We look forward to seeing you on Sunday mornings in November!

This month, we will be learning about the connection between honor and God’s character, as shown through God’s big story. Honor is letting someone know you see how valuable they really are. All people have value because they were created in God’s image. God values each of us so much that He sent Jesus to make it possible for us to have a forever relationship with Him. We follow God’s example when we show others that they have value too.

Our memory verse this month comes from Romans 12:10 and says, “Love one another deeply. Honor others more than yourselves.” We will discuss how you can honor others by giving them a chance, putting them first, and by keeping your promises. You can honor God by giving Him credit. Join us for a new session each Sunday morning this month!

These devotionals include activities that go along with the lesson learned on the previous Sunday morning. We would like to encourage you to spend a few minutes each day with your child(ren) reinforcing what they have learned about that week during Total Group and small groups. We also post Bible readings, reflection questions, and more each day on Instagram and/or Facebook. When the church and family work together to reinforce the concepts and lessons, we will have the greatest impact on the lives of our kids!

FRIENDS OF MAUA HOSPITAL: 2019 GATHERING WAS A HUGE SUCCESS! Both excitement and tension were abundant as the Friends of Maua Hospital (FOMH) 2019 Gathering date approached! The five previous meetings have all been held in Texas. There was concern that Church of the Servant would give a party and no one would come! But there are so many people across the country whose lives have been changed forever by traveling to Maua, Kenya, that not even lousy weather and flight delays kept them away. Sixty-one people from 10 states and 2 countries (Kenya and Malawi) participated in the four-day gathering. Over 30 Methodist churches and organizations were represented.

Friends of Maua Hospital (FOMH) was created so that the numerous churches who send teams and money to Kenya can work as one entity with the hospital management team. We accomplish that by raising funds for projects which the hospital has designated, by expanding support of MMH in the US and by providing logistical support and coordination to mission teams coming to MMH. One of the successful collaborations has been with African Mission Healthcare (AMH). FOMH has worked along with AMH and the hospital to determine the actual cost of certain medical procedures.

This ministry of 22 years is a huge part of how Church of the Servant makes a difference in the community during the Christmas holidays. Come by the table this Sunday and be a part of making someone’s Christmas special. Gifts are due back to the church on Sunday, December 1.

BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE! COATS NEEDED. If you are cleaning out closets or getting a new coat this season, please dry clean your gently used ones and bring them to the church. Adult coats can go in the Skyline Blue Bins and Toddler/Infant Coats can go in the baby crib in the concourse to assist Infant Crisis Services during this busy season. Donations to either of these ministries is also a way to purchase coats this season and can be done through the Fish Funds each Sunday; just designate your check to which ministry.

HEFNER MIDDLE SCHOOL MEALS FOR TEACHERS! We are always very appreciative of our school teachers for teaching and caring for our children. To show our appreciation, many volunteers from Church of the Servant provided meals and desserts for our Hefner Middle School teachers during the Parent/Teacher Conferences in October.

On behalf of the Hefner Middle School teachers, they were all very thankful and appreciative for the food our volunteers provided. Also, thank you to those who delivered the meals and set it up for the teachers to enjoy. You all are amazing!!

hurch of the Servant’s hallways were bustling with enthusiastic shoppers on Saturday, November 9, when the annual Earthglow Market hosted over 100 artisans and craft people sharing their gift items, holiday and home décor, jewelry, food items, and more. It was perhaps the most successful market ever hosted by Earthglow. Proceeds from booth and table rental, food/bake sales, as well as the profits from the Gift Shop, are distributed annually to local missions. Over our history, Earthglow has donated over $860,000 to various missions in our community. Your participation in our Earthglow Market has made a valued contribution to this effort! Thank you for your continued patronage!

VETERANS SUNDAY WAS ON NOVEMBER 10.

We honored our Veterans with a parade of Veterans. The Celebration Choir and Worship Orchestra played each service’s song, and the Oklahoma City Highlander Pipe and Drum Corps added their cinematic musical flare to the event!

We had a fantastic turnout, with over 100 veterans in attendance!

A STORY FROM ONE OF OUR VETERANS On July 17, 1952, I entered the US Air Force and was stationed in Amarillo, Texas where I attended jet mechanic school. I married my high school sweetheart, Ellen, on December 28, 1952, and we later moved to Minneapolis, MN where I served for 4 years as a Crew Chief. While serving in Minneapolis, our daughter Michele was born. I separated from active duty in 1960 after serving my last year with Iowa Air National Guard and living in Des Moines, Iowa where our two sons, Mitchell and Todd were born.

As a veteran, I continue to have passion for my fellow veterans as well as those currently serving. I am especially grateful for the families of our veterans and service members. State House Representative Nicole Miller recently allowed me the privilege to speak on the house floor at which time I was honored as the Oklahoma Veteran of the Week. This provided me an opportunity to recognize just a few Oklahomans who have served our great nation, my grandson who served in the 101st Airborne, as well as their families and my wife and my family for their sacrifices.

I would like to honor my wife as well as all the wives of those who have served and are currently serving with this poem. As the face of our military has changed over the years, I know that our new generation of military spouse may be a husband. I also know that all those family members who support our veterans and active duty service members are the unsung heroes who should not be forgotten for their sacrifices as well.

COMMITMENT CARDS Commitment Sunday is this Sunday, November 17. This is always a great celebration of the continued faithfulness of our church family! This year is a two-fold ask: one is our annual stewardship for the ministry operating budget; the second is for the VISION 2020 Capital Campaign.

This week, you should have received an estimate of giving Commitment Card in the mail. On a practical level, we ask our members to turn in an estimate of giving card each year so that our Finance Committee is able to set an accurate ministry budget for the coming year. This allows us to make the most of every dollar given to the church. The Commitment Card is also an opportunity for you to spend time in prayer and reflection, considering what offering you would make to God through our church in the coming year.

WHAT’S NEXT? Simply fill out your Commitment Card and bring it with you to worship services this Sunday or mail it into the church office. If you do not have a Commitment Card, there will be extra cards in the pews, at each worship entrance, and at the Welcome Center.
