unday, May 30, is going to be a fantastic day at Church of the Servant! At both the 9:30 and 11:00 services, multiple special moments will be happening in the worship services, and you will want to make sure you are here! During the morning, Bishop Jimmy Nunn, Rev. Michael Carpenter, and the Kanakuk Kampout staff will be on site. At the 9:30 Celebration Service, Rev. Michael Carpenter, Rachel, Oliver, and their newest additions, Lucy and Georgia, will be in the service to celebrate two extraordinary moments for their family. Michael served as an associate pastor at Church of the Servant from 2015-2018. During their time at Church of the Servant, Michael and Rachel welcomed their first child, Oliver. I had the honor and privilege to baptize Oliver at Church of the Servant before their family moved to Nebraska so that Rachel could begin her medical residency after the completion of OU Med. Last year, before the pandemic, Michael reached out to me and
asked if I would baptize the twins while he and Rachel were in Oklahoma for his ordination. Of course, I said yes! Unfortunately, we all know what happened last year, and one of the impacts of the pandemic impact was the cancellation of the Ordination Service during the Annual Conference. Now, almost a year later, Michael will be ordained, and the twins will be baptized on Sunday, May 30. Bishop Jimmy Nunn will be present to ordain Michael and preach at 9:30. Then during the 11:00 Modern Worship Service, Church of the Servant will host the staff from Kanakuk Kampout during the modern worship service. Yes, Sunday, May 30 will be a special day and the beginning of a great week. Save the date and plan to be part of a beautiful day at Church of the Servant! Sincerly,

Whether you’ve been attending Church of the Servant for months, or you’re planning your first visit, we would love to meet you and get to know you better. When you arrive at a big church, we know that it can be really difficult to figure out how to get involved and how to connect with other people. It can be especially difficult to move beyond Sunday morning to know others and to be known by them. If you’re new to Church of the Servant and want to learn how to get involved, we want to invite you to join us for Discover Servant. We would love the opportunity to meet you and get to know you a little better. We will meet for about one hour and introduce you to some of the staff and leadership, tell you about what we believe and how to get connected, and answer any questions you have. Our next meeting will be Sunday, May 16, 2021, from 12–1 p.m. in the Community Hall on the north side of our building. Lunch will be provided! To register, head over to our website at ServantOKC.org/DISCOVER and fill out the short form. We look forward to connecting with you!

SKYLINE CLOTHES FOR KIDS SPECIAL FISH APPEAL
THROUGH SUNDAY, MAY 16 For two Sundays - May 9th & 16th - all fish offerings are going to Skyline Clothes for Kids. We love and appreciate your support!
$100 can provide a child with two shirts, two pairs of pants, extra socks, multiple pairs of underwear, a backpack, and school supplies. What is the FISH? Every Sunday, Church of the Servant collects what we call a voluntary “Fish Offering.” There are a few fish-shaped baskets placed around the sanctuary. We use these offerings for missions. We have a few Sundays when the fish offering will be dedicated to a particular organization such as Skyline Urban Ministries or Infant Crisis Services. On the other days, the offering goes into a general mission fund called the Fish Fund to be used for mission work as it is needed in the community, the state, or the world. We love and appreciate your support!

KEVIN SMITH, OKC: Since I had always gone to church, I thought that was enough to be a Christian. I thought I knew the Bible by taking Disciple 1, 2, 3, and 4. I went to church. What more was there? But I knew I was missing something. I heard about Precept but thought it would be like any other Bible study. I started Precept and noticed that we didn’t just read the Bible passages, we studied them, and cross referenced the passages with Old and New Testament passages - truth upon truth. The more I got into the Word, the more faith I found I had. Then one day I realized, I really believed what was being taught. For the first time I knew I was a Christian. I actually became hungry to study more. I am still a young Christian but realized I was becoming more mature and can recognize when I hear “untruths.” It was huge for me to realize how the Old and New Testament was like a puzzle and all the pieces started to fit together...pointing to our kinsman redeemer, Jesus Christ. As I continue to study, I am learning to rely on the Holy Spirit to show me where I am in error and teach me how to humble myself before God. It has changed my life! I truly believe if a person wants to have a close, intimate relationship with God they need to dig into the Word and Precept is the perfect path. You will never regret it. I challenge you to let God’s Word transform your life!
SUNG KIM, LAWTON, OK: Inductive Bible study is a different studying method compared to methods I have used in the past. However, I loved the new approach, and particularly enjoyed the steps for the “observation” part. As I read and observe the Bible over and over, I can also search and interpret the meaning of God’s word. I have found that Precept class helped me better understand and receive a deeper insight of God’s word with the help of the Holy Spirit.
SERVANT CONNECT
JO EDWARDS, OKC: What Precept has done for me, is to completely immerse me in the Word... I am included in the midst of the scriptures! I might be one of the crowds, listening in the synagogue, or following Jesus and His disciples...My daily walk is more focused on who Christ is, and who He wants me to become...Studying the scriptures every day, and doing the assignments has made me see more clearly that even though I am in the world, I need to always be discerning to make sure that I am not conforming to it!
SUSAN KRATOVIL, FEEDING HILLS, MASSACHUSETTS: Studying Precept is about my life changing relationship with God. With Precept I have experienced the power of God’s word and get the guidance I need to teach others about God’s glory.
Discovering the Truth of God’s Word for Your Life Through Precept Bible Study
WHAT TO EXPECT Some of the topic we will cover using the Inductive Method of Study (Observation, Interpretation and Application) will be: • Finding Purpose And Meaning In Your Life • From Death to Life • Born Again or Religious? • Your Purpose in Life • Where Will You Go?
CINDY MOROSE, OKC: Working through a Precept Study is like going on a treasure hunt. I go into our studies with enthusiastic anticipation to see what God will show me through His Word. I love making links and connections and have an unquenchable thirst to know more and more about God. It’s like finding the puzzle piece that fits just in the right place or like the Wizard of Oz movie when it goes from black and white to color—it has changed my perspective and has helped me think and live in the context to God’s word.
NANCY VASSO, OKC: The Precepts method has so enriched my Bible study time! The books and the lessons presented by our leader have given me a depth of understanding of the Bible I have never had. I am finding daily that I can praise God through scripture.
JERE MARCOTTE , OKC: Since I’ve been studying in the Precept class, I have a better understanding of the Bible and the Word. Our leader guides us and makes sure we understand a passage before moving on. I’m so new to studying the precept way but, God is leading me to a better life.
• Who Is Your Father? • Running Your Own Life or Obeying God? • What Happens When You Die? • Extravagant Love • What Are You Producing? • Can I Have an Intimate Relationship with God? • Legacy • Because He Loves You • Living Out Truth
LEON GOLD, OKC: When I first started taking the Precept Classes, I did not know what to expect as I did not have a very good knowledge of the Bible. With each class that I have taken, with Nancy, the more I study, the more I learn about my God. Also, some of the things I thought I knew, I have learned were wrong. Bible study has given me a correct understanding of who God is.

BREAKAWAY The weekend of April 23-25 was an incredible experience for our 4th and 5th graders along with our middle school students (current 6th-8th grade) to do something out of the norm, out of the ordinary, and transforming for themselves and their community. It was an action-packed weekend full of games, worship, service opportunities, breakout groups, and so much more. We spent the night at church Friday night. We served at Skyline Urban Ministries, Cleats 4 Kids, and put together care packages and made blankets for the Homeless Alliance to use. We also had fun together at Frontier City and Main Event. We hope that students walked away from the weekend knowing the goodness found in Romans 12:2 knowing that we are called not to conform to the ways of this world but to be transformed through the grace and love of Jesus Christ.

JUMP JUMP
SUNDAYS IN MAY AGES 3 YEARS THROUGH KINDERGARTEN Some choices are easy—wearing the red shirt or eating the apple instead of the banana. Then, there are the not so easy decisions. What do we do when the decision is hard and we are struggling to know which way to go? We believe the first step to making wise choices is trusting that God’s way is perfect. Our prayer is that we can help make many of the 35,000 choices a day our preschoolers will be making one day a whole lot easier. They will know to jump, jump and go God’s way, because God’s way is perfect! Our memory verse this month comes from 2 Samuel 22:31 and says, “God’s way is perfect.” This month, we will learn that we should go God’s way, even when it’s hard. We can tell others about God’s way. Whose way is perfect? God’s way is perfect!
5K: RUN THE RACE SUNDAYS IN MAY GRADES 1-5
This month, we will be learning about the connection between COMMITMENT and God’s character, as shown through God’s big story. Commitment is making a plan and putting it into action. Growing in faith is not something that happens by merely cramming more information about the Bible into a child’s brain. All of that knowledge in their head means nothing if we don’t help kids experience what that knowledge can do in their hearts. To fully experience faith, we want kids to practice their faith. And that takes commitment. Our memory verse this month comes from 1 Timothy 4:8 and says, “Training the body has some value. But being godly has value in every way. It promises help for the life you are now living and the life to come.” We will discuss how we need to keep practicing what matters most. We will learn how you can practice hearing from God, praying to God, talking to God, and living for God. We can’t wait to see you this month to learn about commitment!

BREAKAWAY 2021 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.– Romans 12:2
Heather Winner Director of Servant Students
Breakaway 2021 was something Servant Students and Servant Kids had never done before. Combine 4th through 8th graders together for one missionsfocused, action-packed weekend? We had no idea how God was going to show up and show off, BUT HE DID! With all that this school year has held, leadership wanted to do something special for this group of students. More than anything we wanted this age group to experience what it would be like to breakaway for a weekend. This looked like breaking away from their normal schedules, breaking away from their comfort zones through service and friendship, and breaking away from weight of brokenness and sin to being transformed by the work of God. We were overwhelmingly amazed to see all that occurred over the weekend.

On Friday, April 23rd, students were greeted with a great amount of welcome and excitement that they were choosing to break away with us. With a large group of willing leaders, students had the chance to get to know each other through goofy games, breakout sessions, and a movie night with their favorite Kona Ice to make kick off a great weekend. Student slept at the church that night so that ministry could begin right away the next morning. Heading into Saturday, April 24th, none of us could have prepared for the goodness ahead. After a time of devotion, we loaded up to head to two different mission sites: Skyline Urban Ministries and Cleats for Kids, At Skyline, students gardened, worked within the food pantry and the store. They were
educated about all that Skyline had to offer and who the ministry worked closely with. At Cleats for Kids, students learned about how this organization collected sporting equipment to give to individuals and teams in need. They work in the warehouse organizing and shelving equipment. Students walked away f rom both sites asking of more ways to get involved and expressing a continued desire to serve in the future. As the morning of service came to an end, students were taken to Frontier City for a thrill of an afternoon. Then, they were taken back to the church for a night of worship. During this time, students were led in high energy worship by the OU Wesley Foundation. Students then heard a message that challenged what it meant for us to break away f rom the patterns of this world, ending with a time of response. This gave students the ability to turn away f rom anything they felt was holding them back from a relationship with God. It was a moment to be remembered as students quickly came forward
to lay their desires before the cross. Even after a jampacked day, exhaustion couldn’t hold them back from running to their Savior – a glimpse into true goodness and childlike faith we should all embody. The next morning, Sunday, April 25th, students joined the 11:00 modern service for another chance to worship together. Then we headed to Main Event for a few hours of fun and then back to the church for our last chance to serve the community over the weekend. The final organization we served was the Homeless Alliance. Students packed 100 hygiene and snack packs to give to the Alliance, along with created a few fleece blankets to be given. Our time together was wrapped up in laughter, dancing, and thanking God for all the good things He did – all we needed to do was break away. And we are so glad that we did.

GO AND DO GOOD THINGS,
CLASS OF 2021! A NIGHT OF TESTIMONY To conclude our small groups of the 2020-2021 school year, we wanted to honor and represent our seniors by giving them the chance to share and declare their faith. So, what better way than a night testimony? Two of our seniors, Halle McFarlene and Libby Pippin shared from their hearts about how God has led them and taught them to put their faith in action. Along with this moment, students were led in worship with these two seniors along with senior, Addison Coniglio. It was a true blessing to witness these girls encourage the younger classes and testify of the power of God in their lives. It was a powerful evening and a wonderful “see-you-later” to the class of 2021.
WHAT IS AHEAD FOR THE CLASS OF 2021?
SENIOR CELEBRATION SUNDAY In continuing to applaud the Class of 2021, Seniors and their families are invited to attend Senior Celebration Sunday on May 16. This of a day of commemoration and celebration – beginning with a Senior Service during the 11:00 service. This will be a time for students to come in their graduation garb and be honored and prayed over. Then, this time will continue with a luncheon for students and families to take place in the Courtyard (by “big Jesus”). Our desire is for students to walk away inspired to continue pursuing their faith in their chapter. If you are a parent of a senior or a senior yourself and you want more information on Senior Celebration Day, email Heather Winner at hwinner@churchoftheservant.com.
