Believe s Belong s Become Transforming Lives!
In May 1987 I attended services at Church of the Servant for the first time. I was a lost soul then – my parents had both died recently from cancer, our families lived out of state, and I was lonely for them. I worked full-time and felt deprived of time with my young son and daughter. My husband’s job required a lot of travel - especially on weekends - and we did not share a faith journey together. The message that first morning focused on the fact that God is our rock, and when we’re living in a valley we should hold on, because He never fails to get us out of the valley if we just believe and trust in Him. I left that morning with hope in my heart. “Those who trust in the Lord for help will find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles; they will run and not get weary; they will walk and not grow weak.” Isaiah 40:31 Fast forward 25 years… my children grew up at Church of the Servant, attending Sunday school, participating in student ministries on Sunday mornings, in Bible studies, camps and mission trips, and had made life-long true friends. When each was married, the best man or maid of honor was a “church friend,” and their marriages began in the Celebration Center. When they hit their own valleys, it was these friends who prayed with them and encouraged them. My own faith grew stronger through my participation in Bible studies and choir; being part of the Welcome Team; having the honor of being a Care Chaplain; and helping with Confirmation classes. When I asked my husband if he wanted to attend Disciple 1 classes with me, without any hesitation he said yes – an answer to many prayers and the beginning of our faith journey together. ...Continued on page 3
