Start Spreading the News! We’re leaving next June.
You’ll want to be a part of it, New York, New York!!
The Celebration Choir is planning another big adventure in June, 2017. Our trip to Italy in 2015 was fantastic, but this time, we’re staying in our own homeland! We’re heading to New York on June 15 for 4 nights in the Big Apple. The choir will be preforming at the
historic St. John the Divine Cathedral. Built in the late 1800’s and still considered “under construction,” it is the largest gothic cathedral in the world, the dome crossing is tall enough to house the Statue of Liberty. Performance will also be at St. Paul’s Chapel, the church that housed the 9/11 responders and is across the street from the memorial; and at one of our United Methodist Churches in the city. You can participate with us as a choir member or just as a tourist (we had 20 folks with us in Italy that did not sing). The tour is designed to be “on your own in the city” with you choosing the attractions and shows and sights you prefer to see. Of course, you will be among fun, friendly people if you want to join a group or someone to buddy up with on your adventure. Cost of

Bless Our Schools: Hefner Middle School Teacher Blessing Boxes Pick up a box on Sundays, July 31 and August 7 to return by August 14. Last August, the teachers and staff of Hefner Middle School were left speechless when they arrived to their classrooms the first day to find a box of supplies and goodies given to each one by our congregation! The mission council is thrilled to sponsor this opportunity again. Pick up a box or two with a suggestion list, fill it and return it by Sunday August 14th. Boxes will be delivered to Hefner on Monday, August 15. This is a strong partnership forged over the last two years that connects our church in the community. It is a way to make a small difference in the lives of teachers who are giving their best to the students in our community.
Church of the Servant has had a long history of partnering with Project Transformation, a literacy camp for lowincome children to help improve their reading level and their confidence. Every year, lives are changed, and the love of God and of learning are instilled in the hearts of hundreds of children. This year, we’re going back to the Chapel Hill UMC site to volunteer, but for two weeks this year! So, we need reading volunteers for Monday-Thursday during the week of July 18-21 (9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.). It only takes a couple hours of your time to make a lasting impact on a child. In just those couple hours, you show them not only the awesome power of reading, but also that there are people in their community who truly care about them. I worked for Project Transformation last summer, and I could fill this whole newsletter testifying to Project Transformation’s power and successes. But instead, I want to encourage you to see for yourself. Please consider signing up for a two-day commitment to read with children and be a part of this ministry. If you can, please give me a call at (405) 728-4716, or an email at mcarpenter@churchoftheservant.com. Let’s transform some lives! Rev. Michael Carpenter

looking for, mark your calendar for Sunday, July 24, at 5:00 p.m. for a small group kickoff event. Register online at: www. churchoftheservant.com/events.
Young adults are vital to growing churches. And the decisions that people make in their 20s have the ability to shape their lives, their faith, and the life of the Church. Church of the Servant is committing to engaging these young adults in our communities and inviting them into a closer walk with God.
If you are no longer in your 20s yourself, do you know any 20-somethings at work or in your family who are looking for a small group? Share this event with them! You can be a part of growing the Church and sustaining it for a new generation. Share this page, or email or text them the link to register for the event. On that day, we’re welcoming all young adults, single or married, students or employees, Servant members and newcomers, to jump into a small group. These groups are authentic, focused, and powerful. So tell them to join us on July 24 as we kick off small groups and tackle the new book study, “Ask: Faith Questions in a Skeptical Age,” which wrestles with all of the questions millennial Christians ask, like “Can only one religion be true?” and “Can I trust the Old Testament?”
If you are in your 20s and looking for a place where you are challenged to live an authentic faith, then these groups are made for you. In a small group, you can do life with a group of people your own age, at your own pace, and in your own way. These groups are entirely composed of young adults, they are led by young adults, and they are coordinated by Rev. Michael Carpenter, our Associate Minister who is in his 20s. If this small group experience is what you have been

WOMEN’S SUMMER STUDY with Dr. Robyn Goggs “Looking for Lovely”
Come join us Tuesdays in July!
Women’s Ministry Bingo and Potluck Evening Ladies, please join us on Friday evening, August 26 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for an evening of food, fun, fellowship, and prizes! Bring your favorite potluck crowd pleaser to share, along with a $10 missions donation. Then settle back for some serious BINGO and a great time visiting with friends, both new and old. Our mission for this evening will be our own Church of the Servant’s Hannah’s Promise. Hannah’s Promise is a ministry for families in our community who have children with special needs. Volunteers from our church come together on the second Saturday of every month to provide one-on-one care and attention for these special children along with their siblings, allowing the parents to have four most-welcomed hours once a month to spend as they please. Your donations will be put to good use to provide food and craft supplies for use in this program.
Using a book by Annie F. Downs, we will examine biblical truths and examples of how others have courageously walked the path God paved for their lives, by remembering all God had done, loving what was right in front of them, and seeing God in the everyday – whether that be nature, friends, or the face they see in the mirror. No matter who we are and what path God has us on, we all need to look for the lovely, fight to finish, and find beautiful in our every day! We will meet in the Community Hall, 9:30-11am, for four Tuesdays in July. No registration needed; just come with your Bible and a pen.
Game nights have been extremely popular events and this promises to be a great evening. Women’s Ministry is busy collecting various and assorted prizes to be awarded to the lucky Bingo winners. And word has it that there will be some awesome prizes! Please take time to register for the evening so that we can have adequate Bingo equipment as well as plenty of prizes. You can sign up online at www.churchoftheservant.com/events, at the Welcome Center on Sunday, or by calling Susie Cobden at 405-728-4711.

Troop 177 Report This spring, Troop 177 did two campouts. For some scouts this was part of preparing for an upcoming high adventure trip. Several members will travel to Boundary Waters in Minnesota for a week of canoeing and camping in July. On April 23-24, 2016, Troop 177 went to Horse Thief Springs located in Southeast Oklahoma. During this backpacking trip, we followed the Big Cedar trailhead for about a 10 mile hike. We began the trail by midday Saturday, and ended early on Sunday. We started the hike with 15 scouts and a handful of parents, some who are also assistant scoutmasters. At first the hike was just up-and-down small hills, then there were two steep hills, and finally it flattened out. We made camp and cooked the dinners we had carried in our packs. On Sunday our hike took us across a rocky ravine and along a river that we had to cross at the end of the trail. Both days were hot and muggy but the view was beautiful!
The next campout was a canoeing campout to practice for our Boundary Waters trip. This campout was May 15-17, 2016 at Quivira Scout Ranch in Kansas. The first night twenty-four scouts stayed at a regular campsite near the lake. In the morning we prepared water, ate breakfast, and packed up our gear. After a brief lesson about boat safety, we put our boats in the water. We canoed with our gear for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Then we got to the place we would have lunch. After lunch we canoed a bit further. Then we took the canoes out of the water, climbed up a hill with the canoes, walked across the way and back down the hill, then back into the water. This was called a portage, and we practiced it a couple of times. We paddled back to the place we had lunch and set up camp. The next day we canoed back to the place we began and left better prepared for Boundary Waters. FUN IN THE SUN-DAY (WATER DAY) Aiden Gerst Troop 177 Sunday, July 31 at 10:45am Join us for FUN in the SUN-day (Water Day) on July 31 during the 10:45 worship hour (3 year olds –5th grade). Remember your towel and sun screen! Wear clothing and shoes that can get wet (please, no bathing suits). And perhaps bring something to change into before you go home.
