Believe s Belong s Become

Project Transformation July 8-11 and July 15-18 Readers needed!

Each summer members of Servant read with the children of Oklahoma City who are part of the Project Transformation Ministry of the United Methodist Church. We need you and we need others who might come as new volunteers to Project Transformation this summer. The commitment is that each morning of the week you choose, you go from 9:45-noon to Chapel Hill UMC. As a volunteer, you listen to children read, one child at a time for 30 minutes (4 children total). It is a small commitment that makes a big difference.

During those two weeks the church is also responsible for meals for the college interns that run the program. The meals are delivered in the evenings to OCU. It is a great opportunity for a class or small group to serve together one evening. If you or your class is interested, choose your dates by contacting Pat McGarrity at patnleroy@yahoo.com.

As I finish my third full season here at Servant. I am delighted to say I am very happy and excited to be a part of this great church and team of co-workers. The success of this season has been due to the hundreds of folks committed to the Music Ministry and the belief the Arts can still reach people even in a high-tech world. I am surrounded by a great music staff and a host of wonderful volunteers from the youngest child in Joyful Noise to the Revelation Youth Choir to The Orchestra, The Way, Servant Singers, Celebration Ringers, all the many Actors and Dancers in our productions, a cracker jack Tech crew, and of course, the anchor of the Music Ministry - the Celebration Choir. The new season will bring some exciting changes. I can’t wait for another very special year!

The choir and orchestra will take a break from leading worship during July. The musical leadership will be supplied by wonderful soloist I am certain you will enjoy.

Now I will take this bit of “slower time” to think about Christmas and Angels!

Summer-Time at Church of the Servant As we prepare to turn the calendar to July there is no doubt that summer is in full swing here at Church of the Servant. People often assume that the summer months point to a slower schedule or less activity within the congregation.

While it is true that there might be a bit more space available in the pews on a summer-time Sunday as people enjoy time away from work on vacation, the bigger picture reveals a congregation buzzing with work and ministry.

Vacation Bible School is often a focal point for our summer months—with over five hundred children involved as well as almost two hundred volunteer workers, it is hard to ignore! But it is only one of our scheduled activities for our children with multiple opportunities to stay engaged through camps and activities both on campus and offsite. Likewise, our student programs have featured significant mission opportunities with multiple age-level camps scattered through these short months as well.

Chuck Weatherford and his music crew have just returned from a very successful tour through the mid-west with the “Revelation” Youth Choir. A team Rev. Randy Shrauner from Church of the Servant has returned from mission in Guatemala, and Dr. Gorrell and Dr. Goggs have just made it home from Great Britain as they led a tour group from the congregation through significant sites in our Methodist history. Church of the Servant scatters to the four-corners of the earth when summer hits Oklahoma!

But one of the most important activities of the summer is the ongoing planning and preparation that occurs as we look forward to the kickoff of our fall activities. Right now plans are being made that will shape the direction of our life together. To do all that God is calling us to do requires an immense number of dedicated volunteers.

Small group leaders, Sunday School teachers, nursery workers, greeters, Sunday parking assistants and coffee shop workers are all needed. If God is nudging you to become involved in the life of the church, please contact a staff member and discuss what might be possible. You never know where a simple Sunday conversation in the concourse might lead!

Soon enough September will arrive and these precious days of summer will have passed. Make sure that you use them well and we will be ready to welcome everyone home as the new season begins.

13.2 Cafe’

We are excited about the things going on in 13.2 this summer! We have 14 new volunteers eagerly learning and training to serve you!

We are also in search of 1 volunteer or a team of 2 volunteers to run 13.2 from September to May to serve the men from Bible Study Fellowship each Monday night. Grab a friend or family member and contact Dana Israel for more information at 918-914-0630 or disrael@ churchoftheservant.com.

Women’s Summer Bible Study on Grace

Does simply thinking of chocolate bring a smile to your face? Imagine spending a sweet hour with other women to share lunch, and talk together about the wonderful grace of God. Dr. Robyn Goggs will be sharing four Tuesdays, beginning July 9, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Bring a sack lunch each Tuesday and enjoy a sweet treat of the Word and chocolate we will share together. Registration will begin on Sunday, June 30.

Ladies Night Out with Jennifer Rothschild August 23 at 7:00 p.m.

If you are a woman who wants to know God more and live life more deeply, then join us for a night of worship and inspiration with Jennifer Rothschild, as she talks to us about “real hope when life doesn’t make sense.” Desserts and coffee will be served as 6:30 p.m.

Disciple Camp

Middle School Ministries just got back from five fun days at Disciple Camp. During this time 45 students and leaders spent time together in fellowship and learned about ‘The Woman at the Well’. It was a great blessings as I watched our students worship, pray for each other, and grow in their walk. Thank you to all who helped make this camp such a memorable start to the summer!

Joyful Noise Music Camp

On Thursday, June 27, forty-five young singers and dancers graced the Centrum stage to present “God of this City”. This musical’s mission was to collect books and raise money for Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, OK. The children had a great time all week long and were able to collect 176 books and $350, all which will be donated to the Plaza Towers Library. Special thanks to all our volunteers!

Hundreds of children over the past 10 years have been blessed with Ms. Lynne’s sweet smile and Mr. Keith’s hug and “remember Jesus loves you and so do we” before they left the classroom on Sundays.
