Collection Update

We are very pleased to announce the allocations that are in the process of being made to Maua Methodist Hospital through your generosity. After collecting $23,500 in March, we consulted Rev. Jim Munroe to ask his advice as to the greatest current needs. He stated that they are in desperate need of a new operating room table. Jim says, “Our best table cannot hold pneumatic pressure and cannot be repaired. So the surgical team raises the table, and it slowly sinks every 5-10 minutes, and the surgery stops while they pump it back up. The cost of a table is about $6000. The second item that we will purchase is a surgical microscope. They only have one which is not functioning and they cannot find a way to repair it. The cost of it is about $12,000. We also wanted to support Jim Monroe and his wife, Sue Owen, who are both volunteers in Kenya and must pay their own expenses. A $1,000 will be donated to them via the General Board of Global Missions. And finally, any leftover funds will be donated to the Maua Hospital Service Fund which covers the cost of those who need treatment and cannot pay. The hospital loses about $200,000 per year in uncollectible fees. $3,500 has also been set aside to help fund our next trip to Kenya. The generosity of Church of the Servant is immense and the people served by Maua Methodist Hospital will be greatly served by our generosity. The staff is faced with overwhelming situations, and as a result, their morale suffers. Knowing that a church in faraway Oklahoma cares enough to provide for them will not be forgotten nor taken lightly. - Ann Knutson

Updates on Ongoing Mission Ministries

Whiz Kids: The school year has finished, and for 31 Mondays this year, 70 volunteers have faithfully responded to drive, feed, and mentor 48 children of Edgemere Elementary! What a celebration of learning and relationship this year has been! Special thank you to all our tutors, drivers, servers, and our coordinators: Shirley Rolston, Kay Morgan, and Carolyn Hays. This is such a rewarding ministry and we will need new volunteers beginning in late August. Please consider how you might have time this year to mentor a child through Whiz Kids. Car Seat Ministry: Each week, 2-5 car seats are given away and fitted by appointment at the church. These are families with some hard, but heart-warming stories from all over our city. Our team of committed car seat technicians continue to host quarterly events with Infant Crisis Services. If you are interested in training and joining this team, please contact Dr. Robyn Goggs at rgoggs@churchoftheservant.com.

Church of the Servant works side by side with Skyline in serving the urban city, by collecting food throughout the year. During the summer, we hold a special focused drive to encourage the whole congregation. The children of VBS are challenging the congregation to participate with them in this drive the week of June 8-15. In worship on the June 8, grocery bags will be available to fill and bring back the following Sunday to celebrate with the children all the food that has been given. Each summer, members of Servant read with the children of Oklahoma City who are part of the Project Transformation Ministry of the United Methodist Church. Many of you volunteer to keep this ministry alive and vibrant in our city. We need you and we need others who might come as new volunteers to Project Transformation this summer. The commitment is that each morning that you choose, you come from 9:30-noon. As a volunteer, you listen to children read, one child at a time for 30 minutes (4 children total). It is a small commitment that makes a big difference. Please sign up at the Welcome Center in the next week to help us complete the commitment to have 15 readers there each day that week.

Fridays for Moms Beginning in June Meets in 13:2 at 9:30 Childcare provided

Summer days are wonderful, but get long with kiddos. Give yourself a couple of hours of refreshment on a Friday morning by coming and joining a caring, vibrant group of moms that meets all year long, but uses the summer to really take care of each other. Sometimes the morning ends with play dates or picnics, but is a great way to connect with other Christian moms caring for kids during the summer. This session the group will be doing a book/video series entitled: One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are by Ann VosKamp. Ann asks these questions: Do we find joy in the midst of deadlines, debt, drama, and daily duties? What does the Christ-life really look like when your days are gritty, long and sometimes even dark? How is God even here?” In One Thousand Gifts, Ann invites you to embrace everyday blessings and embark on the transformative spiritual discipline of chronicling God’s gifts. It’s only in this expressing of gratitude for the life we already have, we discover the life we’ve always wanted - a life we can take, give thanks for, and break for others. We come to feel and know the impossible right down in our bones: we are wildly loved by God. Contact Nicole Baldwin for more details of the summer study at 613-3887.

Adult WE ARE SERVANT!

The heart of our Church is to serve. We fully believe that God has set an example of how Christ followers are to live in our world. We are here to love God by loving people and serving our communities. The church is the only organization that exists for those who are not part of it. The church is the hope of the world and we must break out of the four walls of the church and reach out to those who do not know Jesus. Jesus’ provides two commands which instruct us to “love your neighbor as yourself” and “Go into all the world and make disciples.” These two simple phrases from the Great Commandment and the Great Commission contain insightful direction for the Church. We are to ‘reach in’ by ‘reaching out’ to our local community personally and as a church. We do this by sending out the body of Christ and plant ourselves as Christ followers strategically in our work places, neighborhoods, families etc. to see spiritual and physical transformation. Church of the Servant exists to be a Servant to the Oklahoma City metro. Imagine the possibilities of Servants coming together with a renewal mindset planted in the poorest of communities, in all different types of school districts, wealthy neighborhoods, artist communities, business’, alike coming forward, with a servant heart to help bring restoration and the Gospel to those searching, lost, disconnected, and jaded by bringing unity to our communities. We are Servant, sent out on His mission, His vision, His calling to Reach an ever-growing community made up of singles, young adults, young and older families, and retired individuals to build His kingdom right here in Oklahoma City and beyond. Where is God calling you to serve? Who is he calling you to serve? Will you take that step of faith and be His servant in this world? Contact Rev. Scott Bartlow to get information on how you can serve your community and beyond - 721-4141.

Warm World School Accepting Applications! Warm World School is currently accepting applications for the 2014-15 school year. Warm World is a Christian school for three, four, five, and six year old children. The basic philosophy of Warm World has always been to meet children’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs in a setting that is appropriate for the child’s age. Emphasis is placed on children learning through exploration in an environment prepared for them by knowledgeable teachers. Warm World provides opportunities for children to participate in learning activities in science, reading, writing, math, and critical and creative thinking through play, which is the way young children learn best. They also have weekly visits to chapel led by our Servant ministers. Class sizes are small, Caterpillars - threes - 6:1, Butterflies & Monarchs - fours - 7:1, Kites - transitional kindergarten - 8:1, Kindergarten - 10:1. In kindergarten the core subjects of phonics, math and handwriting are taught while also exploring the areas of science, music, geography, and an outdoor classroom. A few of the highlights from this year are pictured in the newsletter. On the cover is a picture of one of the many songs from our Spring Sing production of “Just A Little Bit Of Broadway.” An original production created by our very own music teacher, Ms. Misty. Also on the cover is the 41st annual Big Wheel Rally. Big Wheel Rally is a fun Warm World family event held on the first Sunday of May. The Warm World students get to “race” their big wheels, enjoy snow cones and a bounce house. Pictured here is one of the many harvests of the KinderGarden. Garden Granny, aka Jo Duncan, volunteers her time to teach the kindergartners all

they need to know about gardening. The hands-on experiences just can’t be “beet”, I mean beat. The kindergartners love Garden Granny and love to enjoy their harvest. Most of the kindergartners shocked their parents and actually ate their radishes. Call 721-4141, email warmworldokc@yahoo.com or go to warmworld.com for enrollment requirements.

Leader Appreciation

I have always found the term “it takes a village to raise a kid” fascinating. Even though I don’t have children of my own, I can’t help but agree with this term in regards to ministry. This ministry is built on Jesus and He is using incredible adult leaders to invest in the lives of our students. From Wednesday night Bible study to mission trip experiences, our leaders have been a beautiful reflection of Christ. Thank you so much: Rachel Gillespie, Annaleigha Harris, Jennifer Beene, Ashlee Adams, Levi Clark, Kenyatta Bethea, Scott Seitz, Sean Brownlee, Josh Belleiu, Jessica Keyser, Leighann Parham, Karie Carpenter, Jacquelyn Schoppa, Taylor Dickerson, Jeremy Black, Amy Hammons, Taylor Barnett, Mike Gentry, Kyle Israel, Dave Hammons, Cody Carson, Sidney Barton, and Jordan Todd.
