In her studio at Silver Street Studios in Houston, sculptor and painter Alessandra Albin works as an archaeologist of memory: “Every character I sculpt or paint is a fragment—a part of a vessel that once held something whole.” Her work honors the power of absence, where cracks are revered rather than concealed, and loss itself becomes a presence. These are not broken pieces waiting to be repaired; they are complete in their incompleteness. Born in Mexico City to Italian parents, Albin carries a diasporic legacy that stretches across Italy, Austria, Germany, and the Czech lands. She works in bronze, terracotta, stone, gesso, lightweight metals, and ink on wood to give form to the human body in its gestures, reaches, folds, and silences. Trained at La Esmeralda and the Centro Universitario de Teatro, she brings to sculpture both the pulse of the hand and the eye of a director; her figures do not shout—they whisper. To encounter Albin’s work is to remember that our own lives are vessels of silence and song, form and fracture. “You are made of fragments,” her work seems to whisper. “And yet, you do not break.” Alessandra Albin’s work can be http://www.alessandraalbin.com and at Studios in Houston.
