亲爱的学⽣及家⻓们， 我们很开⼼地欢迎⼤家重返校园！我们相信⽼师和学⽣们都想念来学 校上课的⽇⼦。借此，我们给在过去的 60 天不间断的线上课程给予 配合的所有学⽣，家⻓及⽼师们最⼤的掌声。我可以确定的是，这段 期间所付出的⼀切努⼒将不会⽩费，因为重返校园复课后我们将继续 专研这些知识和技能。我们必须记得如今的⽇常⽣活将不会⽴刻恢复 如往常般，因此有了这个词汇 “新常态”，这也适⽤于形容现今的教 育及学习。然⽽，我们得继续竭尽所能帮助⼤家适应在致理复课后的 新常态。 除了开学相关事宜，我欲借此机会宣布 Vimashiinee Sandra ⽼师 将于 2020 年 7 ⽉下旬卸任学术副校⻓⼀职。我们衷⼼感谢她过去为 学校的发展所付出的贡献和努⼒。再次感谢 Teacher Vima! 我还要借此宣布 Lieu Cheow Fong ⽼师将晋升为学⽣事务副校⻓。 随着学校的扩展，我们也致⼒委任主要负责⼈于各学校部⻔以确保学 校能继续提供最良好的教育。恭喜 Teacher Lieu! 学⽣重返校园之际，我重申校⽅已纳取全⾯考量并采取措施以确保学 校是安全且适合复课的。我们所采取的措施包括：

1. 出席教育部所有的标准作业程序的简报会议，我校也已 通过全部的审核。 2. 所有教室在学⽣返回校园之时进⾏每⽇清洁消毒⼯作。 3. 教室内的座位是遵循教育部规定的社交距离标准作业 程序来排列的。 4. 学校四周将悬挂海报和指⽰以提醒学⽣们熟悉学校的 新常态。 5. ⽼师们也已经通过训练，以帮助学⽣适应学校的新常态。 6. 校⽅每天都会向学⽣做有关学校新常态的教导及提醒。

总结，此⽉报旨在持续增进学校每⼀份⼦彼此间的沟通和理解。 因此，让我们时刻保持沟通，尤其在如今这艰难时刻，以确保我们能 ⾃我调整且适应这瞬息万变的世界。就如我们在⾏动管制令期间适应 线上课程⼀样，我们相信我们能携⼿同⾏渡过任何变迁。

Stories for My Children Every time when I read something about BEDTIME STORIES – It triggers memories of years past when my children were still young. Yes, BEDTIME STORIES! That was what I did, making up stories as fast as my children would curiously enquire 'what's next' in their room, slightly lit by a low-power blue bulb. Picking some fictitious characters that used to fascinate me during my childhood days and adding ‘salt and sugar’ with a modern context, I would spin exciting tales without any regard for logic and reality.

Was I very free then? Certainly not.

Besides teaching in school, ferrying the children, teaching extra classes and writing books, I tried my best to spare some time a few nights per week for these special bedtime story sessions. I hope parents, regardless of ranks and positions at work, would be normal parents to their children at home because they have the same needs as any other children. Problems among teenagers nowadays are partly due to the lack of parental love and communication.

Talking about stories that defy logic and reality, I would like to say that this is a way to provoke imagination and thinking. They should be fun, with fantasies and morals intertwined. Have you ever wondered why superheroes like Superman, Batman and Ironman are

so popular? Try telling your kids that it is impossible for Superman to fly by just tying a piece of cloth around his neck. They may boycott you for a week or even longer! Looking back, it had been a good start in training the kids’ creative and critical thinking at a very young age and most importantly, in an indirect way. Imagine telling a kid this pointedly...Now I am going to teach critical thinking and creative thinking ...This will surely be the fastest way to trigger a mechanism in the child’s mind to shut off.

In retrospect, I have got to admit one thing: If the stories were meant to make them go to sleep faster, I had failed miserably. Anyway, that was never my intention. Till today I do not know how long they had taken to calm down for a good night’s sleep after getting all excited about stories like this one: a boy and a girl were chased by dragons and

Many of us probably associate Mr. Yew Kok Leh with his role as a Principal, textbook writer or educational consultant. But today, we will get to see a lessknown yet equally important side of him – a loving father to his children. Let us read together as he shares his insights and experiences about raising creative children!

monsters in a dark cave...until both found two halves of a ring which, when joined together and with a simultaneous shout of the name SUZANE, would make the giant genie appear and help them defeat their enemies...And no matter how indirect it was, the stories were always about the good defeating the bad. As I write this, I can still feel the fun, pride, warmth and satisfaction of those days. One reason why I am sharing my experience is to encourage more parents to pick up bedtime story-telling as a hobby…or at least view it as a responsibility. All the more now, so that young kids know that besides teachers, smartphones and televisions, parents can be even more interactive than the most advanced multimedia systems in the world.

给孩⼦们的 故事 每当我阅读到⼀些有关《睡前故事》的报 道时，我的脑海都会唤起我孩⼦⼉时的点 滴。对，就是睡前故事！我所做的就是， 编故事让孩⼦们好奇地询问着接下来故事 的发展情节，犹如点亮⼀盏能量不⾜的灯 。在不按逻辑思维和现实的情况之下，于 现代故事情景中挑选⼀些在我童年时期曾 让我着迷的虚构⼈物并加油添醋，编织出 令⼈兴奋的故事。 当时的我很空闲吗？当然不是。除了在学 校教书，载送孩⼦上下学，教补助班和写 书以外，我尽量在每个星期腾出⼏个晚上 的时间就是为了这特别的睡前故事时段。 家⻓们，我希望您们了解⽆论是⼯作职位 ⾼低，在家⾥您们都是孩⼦们的⽗⺟，所 有孩⼦都⼀样需要⽗⺟的关怀。现今社会 的⻘少年所⾯对的问题很⼤的原因就是缺 乏与⽗⺟的沟通和来⾃⽗⺟的关怀。 谈到不按逻辑思维和现实的故事，我想表 达的是这是其中⼀种激发想象⼒和思考能 ⼒的⽅式。这应该是很有趣的，并且与幻

总是那么美好的，总是能够打败坏⼈。当 我在写这篇⽂章的时候，我依然可以感受 到那段⽇⼦的乐趣、得意、温暖和满⾜。 我之所以在这⾥分享我的经验是想⿎励更 多的⽗⺟把睡前故事当作⼀种爱好…⾄少 能将这视为⼀种责任。最重要的是让⼩孩 知道除了⽼师、智能⼿机和电视节⺫，⽗ ⺟是⽐这世界上许多先进的科技更能带给 他们互动的。

STUDENT’S CORNER Year: Graduating Class (GC) As the GC students were the first batch of students, we welcomed back to school, we decided to do a simple survey with them about their MCO experience and how they felt about coming back to school!

While most students cherished the extra time they had to sleep in and play video games since they could stay at home and not go to school, there were a few more interesting responses from the class.

Well, it was no surprise that “online classes” was the most common answer. After all, the MCO seemed like a holiday, except that it wasn’t. Anyway, let’s look at some other notable responses.

MOST INTERESTING THING THEY DID/LEARNT/ DISCOVERED DURING THE MCO From the responses, we could see that the students were quite productive during this period of time.

Some of them tried their hand at cooking while some discovered more useful ways to use their smartphones (other than just for taking photos and playing games). There were also a few of them who participated in the Esports Competition organised

by JPN Johor! Nevertheless, here are a few more interesting responses…

I got to have a taste of what homeschooling is like and learnt how to manage my time by myself.

DESCRIBE YOUR FEELINGS ABOUT RETURNING TO SCHOOL While many of them indicated that they felt stressed/anxious about returning to school (mainly due to their upcoming examinations and more homework!), others were also relieved as they could FINALLY return to school and see their friends!

I’m excited that I get to see my school again! It’s really boring at home.

THINGS I MISS IN MY SCHOOL

By Reeves Tien (Year 6) Since the MCO started, I miss my school, SJIS. I miss everything about it. I miss the library the most as I always visited it before the MCO. All the books in the library are my best friends, but I miss the library most because I am a bibliophile (one who loves books). The number of books in the library has always impressed me and it has some interesting books I wanted to discover.

who cook us our delicious lunch. After lunch, they would tirelessly clean the pots and pans. And all of their hard work pays off when they see the students reorganise their own plates. This would always put a big smile on their faces.

I miss the tree in the courtyard: The feeling of throwing my weight onto the spiky grass to look up into the sky and reach the clouds with my hand; the fluffy moving clouds that make the building dance.

I miss my friends. I always go alone to the canteen during recess. Sometimes, I sit with my classmates and their friends or with my childhood friend, Rizqi.

As our canteen is near the courtyard, I could often hear chattering, chanting and shouting from every joyful student who enjoyed their time on the green, syntactic grass.

Lastly, I miss my classmates and my class teacher, Tr. Zul. He is one of my favourite teachers. Although he is stern, he likes a good laugh. He always says “I love my Year 6”.

All of my classmates like Tr. Zul. They say he is the very best. My classmates are a playful bunch.

They like playing instead of sitting still. Sometimes, they can be rough and end up making someone cry, “I want my mommy!”. Me? I don’t play often. During lunch, I prefer the peace and quiet of the library unless my house is on clean up duty.
