JOSEF’S TUESDAYS MUSIC FIRST AND FOREMOST. A musician since childhood, on Tuesdays Josef Sudek gave “concerts in his studio on Ujezd Street in Prague with a selection from his precious collection of classical recordings.” When the Iron curtain fell on Eastern Europe, Sudek could get rare music from the West through a mysterious correspondant, VK, whose address Room 224, Palais des Nations, Genève remained reachable through all the Cold War years. The photographer sent his favorite photographic prints, with desideratas on the versos and received precious vinyl disc which allowed him to follow on his prestigious Tuesday concerts in a silent city.
The dispersion at auction* of the VK collection of more than 140 vintage prints sent by Sudek during thirty years is a rare occasion to access his most intimate life with music.
