MUSIC EDUCATION AT SERAPHIC FIRE

SERAPHIC FIRE YOUTH INITIATIVE

Seraphic Fire’s Youth Initiative (SFYI) is a multi-pronged music education program serving elementary, middle, and high school students in some of South Florida’s most challenged communities .

Workshops

Led by a quartet of Seraphic Fire artists, SFYI workshops offer an interactive approach to music education and choral performance for eight Title I elementary schools . Students learn music theory, vocal pedagogy fundamentals, and elements of music history through interactive exercises with Seraphic Fire artists .

Choral Education Residency (CER)

A UM Frost School of Music doctoral student teacher and the schools’ music specialists present weekly vocal pedagogy instruction to two classes selected from the 3rd-5th grades at two partner Miami-Dade County Public Schools . In December and April of each season, after working side by side with Seraphic Fire musicians in a joint rehearsal, Seraphic Fire performs a side-byside concert with students from the CER program .

Education Concerts

In May 2022, Seraphic Fire will present its second education concert of the season . Hosted by Patrick Dupre Quigely, the concert will serve as a guided tour of the music of Handel’s Messiah . We are pleased to announce that these concerts will be presented for the first time in Collier and Broward counties this spring .

High School Masterclass

The first High School Masterclass, was held February 2022 at The Wertheim School of Music and Performing Arts, FIU . Eighty students spent a day studying with Seraphic Fire artists that culminated in a concert for family and peers .

PROFESSIONAL CHORAL INSTITUTE AT ASPEN MUSIC FESTIVAL AND SCHOOL

Seraphic Fire’s GRAMMY® nominated Professional Choral Institute at Aspen Music Festival and School is a 2-week summer program designed to prepare emerging singers to work in the growing industry of professional ensemble singing . PCI alumni have now performed with nearly every professional vocal ensemble in the country . Seraphic Fire looks forward to welcoming 24 students to Aspen, CO in August 2022 .

ENSEMBLE ARTIST PROGRAM AT UCLA & UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI

Seraphic Fire hosts its Ensemble Artist Program at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music and University of Miami’s Frost School of Music . The program provide season-long vocal ensemble training to undergraduate and graduate voice students . Participating students are invited to perform alongside the professional ensemble in subscription concerts throughout the season . This program aims to help UCLA and UM’s emerging professional singers discover outlets for professional employment while fulfilling Seraphic Fire’s educational mission to advance the art form through the development and refinement of students’ talent .
