Welcome to Music History 101!

Seraphic Fire's ambitious and daring 22nd season features seven programs that pair beloved classics with unknown gems of Western music's major eras. If you are culturally curious, intellectually hungry, and looking for a concert experience out of the ordinary, Seraphic Fire's Music History 101 is the season for you!

Over the course of this electric, stimulating set of concerts, we'll give the modern world premiere of O, Virgo, cui salutem by Marianna Martines (student of Haydn and Porpora, duet partner of Mozart), delve deeply into the music of 18th-century cloistered convents, explore the incredible contributions of contemporary Jewish composers, hear the works of Clara and Robert Schumann side by side, and journey to the Spanish court of Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, where he assembled the Capilla Flamenca: the most famous choir of the Renaissance.

Beginning in October, Seraphic Fire will open the season with a 75-minute program that traverses the entirety of Western music history–from the monks of the 9th century to today–featuring some of my and the ensemble's favorite choral masterpieces, including Gregorio Allegri’s famous Miserere.

And, of course, we'll see the annual return of our GRAMMY-nominated, Billboard-chart-topping Seraphic Fire Christmas concerts, this year hosted by one of your favorite guest conductors, Anthony Trecek-King.

Additionally, this season we are enhancing our productions with the contributions of America's leading musicologists joining us for online lectures, insightful magazine articles, entertaining program notes, and the return of the Seraphic Saturday Podcast.

This is Seraphic Fire’s most exciting season yet. The artists and I look forward to seeing you in the audience and sharing this extraordinary musical experience with you.

With friendship and appreciation, Patrick Dupre Quigley

The Capilla Flamenca was perhaps the most glorious choir ever assembled. A gift from a queen to her grandson, Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, the elite group of singer-composers dazzled the courts and cathedrals of Spain for centuries with their sublime voices and awe-inspriring music. Seraphic Fire—led by guest conductor Amanda Quist—will bring their legacy to life in a stunning tribute to the Capilla Flamenca. Journey back to 18th-century Italy, where captivating music blossomed in convents. Antonio Vivaldi, the "Red Priest," composed vibrant choral pieces for Venice's cloistered convent and orphanage, the Ospedale della Pietà, including the beloved Magnificat. Across Italy, talented women like Chiara Margarita Cozzolani and Maria Xaveria Perucona crafted ecstatic compositions that raised eyebrows among religious authorities. Join Patrick Dupre Quigley as he leads chorus and period orchestra in this program that offers a peek into the secret lives of 18th-century nuns.

Seraphic Fire’s Impact Through Education

Through educational programming, Seraphic Fire aims to steward the next generation of music lovers and offer resources to the most in-need students in our community.

Seraphic Fire Youth Initiative

Seraphic Fire offers a free music education program serving approximately 3,500 elementary, middle, and high school students in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Collier counties. This initiative consists of three parts:

• The Choral Education Residency (CER): A weekly program at two Miami elementary schools designed to be a high-impact, sustainable model for music education and teaching artistry. Residencies last two years at each participating school.

• In-School Workshops: Three 45-minute workshops presented by a quartet of Seraphic Fire artists, where students learn music theory fundamentals, music history, ethnomusicology, and vocal technique by participating in interactive vocal exercises and workshop quizzes.

• Education Concerts: Seraphic Fire's professional ensemble performs a guided tour of a subscription concert at the end of each semester. At these concerts, students from the CER have the opportunity to perform alongside Seraphic Fire in front of an audience of their peers.

High School Master Class

Once per year, Seraphic Fire brings together outstanding high school choral students from Miami-Dade County Public Schools for a full day of workshops and rehearsals, exposing students to a high level of musicianship and artistry as they work with and learn from the artists and conductors of Seraphic Fire.

Miami public school students perform alongside Seraphic.
