SEPROD FOUNDATION SEPROD GIVES BACK Donation to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security

A donation was made from the Seprod Group to the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of food essentials. Socially distanced and looking on from L- R are Suzette Morris, Director for Social Security, Richard Pandohie, Seprod CEO, Collette Roberts Risden, Permanent Secretary and Audrey Deer-Williams, Chief Technical Director, Social Security.

The Seprod Group and Seprod Foundation presented the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) with a donation of over JMD $5 million worth of food supplies to be used for the COVID-19 relief response. The products including cow’s and condensed milk, flour, sugar, oil, crackers, porridge, cheese, pasta, sardines and snacks were presented by CEO of Seprod, and Director of the Seprod Foundation, Richard Pandohie, to the MLSS Permanent Secretary, Colette Roberts Risden. The products will be sorted into nutritionally balanced packages and distributed to those most vulnerable in our communities.

Donation to the Camperdown Alumni The Seprod Foundation was happy to assist the Camperdown Alumni with a donation of food items for the compilation of food packages to assist 200 Camperdown students most in need during this time. The students and their families were extremely grateful.

Donation to the community of Bog Walk We immediately responded to our Bog Walk community members with the provision of food items for food packages. These food packages were distributed to 160 community members. We believe that these food packages not only assist with the basic nutrition needs of individuals and families, but remind community members that they are not alone, and are cared about.

Partnerships Seprod Foundation strongly believes in the power of partnerships and immediately responded to the co-ordinated Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) Ventilator Initiative by raising funds to purchase ventilators to strengthen Jamaica’s public health response to COVID-19. We were happy to have donated JMD $2.5 million toward the purchase of 40 ventilators for hospitals designated by the Ministry of Health. We also responded to the general PSOJ COVID-19 Response Fund formed in partnership with the umbrella organization for the voluntary sector, the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS) with a donation of JMD $1.1 million to support food security through the distribution of care packages to the most vulnerable in our communities. We are proud to be a part of these powerful partnerships that have contributed to strengthening our health system, security of our healthcare workers, and ensured the equitable distribution of food to those that need it most.

Tivoli Gardens High School Agriculture Programme To foster and encourage interest in the agricultural sector, Seprod Foundation has been working with Tivoli Gardens Comprehensive High School to strengthen their agricultural programme. We have donated tools and equipment so that each student has their own to work with. We will also be facilitating exposure to tertiary institutions, such as the College of Agricultural Science and Education (CASE), and access to the management and team of Serge Dairy Farms, that keep the operation going. We aim to provide the exposure and opportunities so that students are inspired to consider agricultural sciences as a career path.

BUILD AN EMERGENCY HURRICANE KIT

We are now in Hurricane Season (June 1-Novenber 30). The National Hurricane Centre predicts a 60 % chance of an above-normal 2020 Atlantic hurricane season. An average hurricane season produces 12 named storms, of which 6 become hurricanes, including 3 major hurricanes.

According to forecasters, this hurricane season is highly likely to range from 13 to 19 named storms, of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes. This includes 3 to 6 major hurricanes. Yikes!

In order to prepare for what may come, there are some essentials that are needed for surviving a Hurricane. Some of the items can be found in our own Commissaries across the Seprod/ Facey Group.

Start to consider the items on the checklist below and tick off as you make the necessary preparations:

WeTrain WORKOUT SESSIONS DURING COVID 19

Seven Seas teamed up with The Jamaica Body Building and Fitness Association (JABBFA) during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The activity was also endorsed by The Sports Development Foundation, Jamaica Olympic Association and Jamaica Moves. The directive from our leaders was to “Stay Home” and in order to maintain the level of fitness at home, JABBFA’s members - who are mostly personal trainers - were tasked with creating work-out sessions via Instagram for various purposes: 1)

To engage their clientele who were not allowed to go to gyms, To engage fitness enthusiasts who wanted to maintain their level of fitness To motivate persons to train at home utilizing basic everyday equipment (water bottles, mop sticks, shopping bags, books etc.)

The Fitness Craze on Mondays and Wednesdays ignited the IG Space as these toned men and women offered their followers a great workout. We Train is streamed live on Instagram.

JAABBFA has over 5500 followers and the social media magazine #Pushitja has 5700 followers. Combined, they have maintained connection and kept their followers active.

We incorporated a consumer activity, providing a free Shopping Bag for consumers who mentioned the JABBFA Work Out Session at the Lifestyle & ValuDrug Pharmacies.

The consumer promotion ended on June 30, 2020.

Brunswick Social Media Activities Brunswick executed two social media activities - The MOM Show & Home Cook Hero recipe contest. Home Cook Hero was not open to staff for entry; but the MOM Show was shared with all for viewing.

We celebrated World Tuna Day by providing meals to frontline workers at St Joseph’s Hospital. They were treated to Tuna Lasagne, Steamed Garden Vegetables & Delite Juices! Our team member, Romayne Ramsay presented the pre-packaged meals to Nurse Stephene and team. We also handed over cans of Tuna to the team at the Spanish Town Hospital.

SUPLIGEN KPH DONATION In May 2020, our Supligen brand seized the opportunity to give back to our frontline workers at the Kingston Public Hospital in Downtown, Kingston. We had to thank all frontline hospital workers who selflessly gave of their time and effort during this pandemic.
