SEPROD UNDER CONSTRUCTION Construction to build out the Seprod Complex is underway!

This warehousing project will see to the further expansion of our distribution footprint with the consolidation of our main distributors. “It will be like a self-contained mini-campus”, CEO Richard Pandohie stated recently to The Gleaner.

CELEBRATING WORLD FOOD SAFETY DAY! On June 7th, 2021, we celebrated World Food Safety Day under the theme, “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow”. This is even more important as the production and consumption of safe food has immediate and long-term benefits for people, the planet, and the economy.

Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) highlighted that "safe foods help to save lives and ensure a healthy future and is on the ground helping to develop innovative, holistic and feasible "food chain" solutions to ensure #foodsafety”.

The season began on June 1 and ends on November 30 and it is predicted to be a very active one. Thankfully, Jamaica was not impacted directly from a hurricane in 2020 but we did indeed experience heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides and damage to homes. Let us gear up for the 2021 season as we are also battling COVID-19.

WITH BUTTERKIST & SERGE BUTTERKIST READ ACROSS JAMAICA DAY- MAY 4th Read Across Jamaica Day was observed this year on May 4th 2021 as part of activities to celebrate Education Week from May 4th to 11th. Butterkist partnered through the Seprod Foundation with the Grass Roots Foundation and American child activist Marley Diaz to donate over 50 snack packages to children across various primary and secondary schools. Team Butterkist visited a few of the schools on Read Across Jamaica Day on May 4th to encourage the children to continue reading, while also assisting with the handover of packages.

Facey Commodity celebrated mothers throughout the divisions on Friday, May 7, 2021, with a host of activities and gifts that were geared towards treating moms on their special day. Each mother was gifted with flowers and chocolate courtesy of Gorgeous Flowers and Cadbury.

On Friday May 7, 2021, twenty-three (23) mothers employed to Serge Dairies/MIDL were recognized and treated to gift packages. This was a wonderful kick-off to the start of the Mother’s Day weekend, despite the Covid-19 restrictions.

Brand Manager of pharmaceutical brands, Suzette Townsend launched the Westmeade Mother’ Day Competition that gave employees the opportunity to win a gift box for mom by making a purchase from any of the brands under her portfolio.

The Human Resource Department also chimed in on the festivities by hosting a trivia game segment for the entire day where mothers won prizes sponsored

by Digicel, Burger King, Adam & Eve and the various brands throughout the Seprod Group.

“I enjoyed myself and really feel special that the company decided to do this for the mothers and even added some fun and games along with the gifts,” said Donna Butler, Settlement Clerk Pharmaceutical Division. “Facey Commodity strives in doing the best they can for their employees by showing them appreciation especially for special events such as Mother’s Day” she said.

INTRODUCING FARM 9 The newly established Serge Island Farm 9 is charged with the responsibility of caring for pregnant cows during their late stage of pregnancy. The objective is to provide standardized management of livestock and to minimize calf mortality.

Cows in transition are transferred to the farm as early as 7 months into their gestation. After birth, the calves are monitored and cared for up to 7 days, after which, they are transferred to the Young Stock farm. The mothers are transferred to milking farms.

Farm 9 provides optimal care and comfort for pregnant cows and their new-born calves. This includes, but is not limited to birthing assistance, pre-natal and post-natal monitoring as well as nutritional care.

SEPROD FOUNDATION GAME DESIGN WEBINAR As an outreach partner for the Code Games Challenge launched by XPRIZE, Seprod Foundation encouraged Jamaican students to enter the global video game design challenge in the summer of 2020 when students were at home without the usual engagement of summer camps and activities. 179 Jamaican students registered using the Seprod Foundation 'classroom.'

Two of our students were finalists - Shafene Daye’s Written Game Design Document ‘Duro Double Life’ took 3rd place among the finalists in the senior division track in the final judging. 'The Coney's Legend' by Deomar Wisdom was a finalist in both the Open Platform and the Playable Game - Environment Theme in the senior division track. 11-year-old Dominic Darby copped the Best in Class in Scratch for his game ‘How to Fall.’ He was one of 16 winners who topped over 800 students from over 70 countries across the globe!

We got a chance to meet these winners on our Game Design Webinar on April 22nd. who shared both their favorite parts and the most challenging parts of creating a game with code, igniting exciting discussion among the young participants who were eager to learn about how to get started on creating their own game. Seprod Foundation believes that these young coders will learn from each other and create what we hope is a community of young video game designers.

THE SEPROD FOUNDATION BUDDING FARMERS GROW CLUB Seprod Foundation is the proud title sponsor of the Seprod Foundation Budding Farmers Grow Club which was launched on May 14th and officially started on May 21st. This initiative is aimed at promoting agriculture among Jamaicans and encouraging them to appreciate the importance of food security to the development of communities. A Budding Farmer is anyone who does not have any formal training in farming or agriculture but is willing to learn and to continue to grow. Budding Farmers participating in the Grow Club will learn about composting, planting from seeds and kitchen scraps, good insects vs. bad insects, organic pesticides, understanding how plants grow, understanding the importance of eating healthy and so much more. Healthy eat

NUTRITION PROGRAMME AT TIVOLI GARDENS HIGH SCHOOL Seprod Foundation, in partnership with Brunswick and Eve, started a Nutrition Programme at the Tivoli Gardens High School on May 26th. The Nutrition Programme involves the provision of food items that are able to form the basis of a healthy and well balanced meal for an initial period of a year. The beginning of the Nutrition Programme coincided with students who were sitting exams being back in schools for face-to-face learning.

EDUCATION WEEK - MARCH 3RD - 5TH LITERACY CARE PACKAGES Some 600 literacy care packages, inclusive of culturally relevant books, stationary, snacks, masks and sanitization items were donated to students in Jamaican primary schools and the Early Childhood Commission during Education Week. The initiative was in collaboration with Marley Diaz, American child activist and writer and the Book Industry Association of Jamaica. A diverse set of partners aided in the effort including Seprod, Carlong Publishers, Collins Publishing, Hodder Education and Scholastic. Denham Town Primary was one of the recipients of these well-deserved literacy care packages.

TEACHERS DAY We celebrated our teachers at Maxfield Park Primary by gifting them with gift baskets comprised of awesome Seprod products. The teachers felt very appreciated!

#CODEJAMAICA STEAM ACTIVITIES The PolyUp Challenge: Through creative activities, students acquire a deeper understanding of Math, Computer Science, Robotics, AI, Design and Entrepreneurship by coding and creating 3D machines. Teachers can also register and gain a free STEM certification.

The Oxford University Computing Challenge: The OUCC Jamaica aims to encourage students to produce programmed solutions to computational thinking problems.

Virtual Robotics Jamaica: Virtual Robotics Jamaica includes 3 awesome experiences: the Halls of Learning Robotics League, WRO Robot Virtual Games and WRO international finals.

UBISOFT Game Creators Odyssey: A Video Game Design Course: This 6 monthlong course will provide participants 18 years and older with an immersive experience and exposure to the recipe of a top international game developer, Ubisoft.

Bebras Challenge: The Bebras Challenge is made up of a set of fun, engaging problems that introduces students to computational thinking skills.

LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT Special Recognition to Twenty-Two (22) employees who completed a Virtual Training Workshop on “How to Ensure That Your Disciplinary Actions are justified and Fair”. The Training was presented by Mrs. Yvonne Davis, Workshop Presenter with the Jamaica Employers Federation( JEF) on May 18 – 21, 2021 . Employees without assigned computers or laptops were able to access the virtual training classroom with the HR Department’s mobile online lab.

CPL ACHIEVEMENT Caribbean Products Co Ltd. can finally sing “When you're winning it's a sweet story”. It has been 14 years in the making, but thankfully on May 10, 2021 it was confirmed that the Plant received the highest level (Tier 1) in the Yum! Food Safety Audit and Yum! Quality System Audit. Restaurants of Jamaica is one of our top customers and this achievement could not have been possible without the ardent work of (persons in the picture below) and the tenacity of the Carib Management Team, Staff and the Internal Audit Team!
