If you want to discuss or get professional insights on recent coffee industry issues or trends with coffee people around the world First, World Coffee Leaders Forum is the one. Highly honored coffee industry leaders and scholars will be invited to share their insights and give solutions for those who wonder. WCLF committee has decided to raise the recently confronted issues of coffee industry and observe it through the lens of “Diversity and Balance” this year. There are different sessions in WCLF. Any visitors from coffee industry experts to pre-founder can enjoy a variety of program in different sessions.

However, from the contest in 2015, it has changed into having baristas make the best coffee of the best flavor and aroma by blending coffee from six single-origin coffee beans provided by the organizer, at a ratio unique to themselves, without officially designating any coffee. Because it has transformed into a contest of highlighting each contestant’s individuality, baristas now emphasize the appeal of their individual coffee bean blends during their presentations and showcase various performances to draw as much response from the judges and spectators. The coffee bean blend of the champion is then launched into a product the following year, under the name of “Champion Coffee.”

2. Korea Team Barista Championship (KTBC) Korea Team Barista Championship(KTBC) is clearly a dynamic contest full of vitality, in which coffeemakers compete. It first showcased at Sweet Korea in March 2014.

Despite its short history as a contest of a busy cafe stage concept, it is continuously loved because of its unique competing method not easily found anywhere else. KTBC is held twice a year at the Seoul Cafe Show and Sweet Korea in collaboration with their organizers, and it was designed to improve the work competencies of baristas, who need to have the ability to make various menus and provide speedy client services, as its positive impact. During the preliminaries, the participating teams get to compete in leagues so that they can gain more experience competing. From the final round, it is held in the form of a tournament for greater excitement. The menus that each team has to demonstrate are lot drawn on site, and each team member gets to check the menu while simultaneously setting their bar for optimal human traffic.

All kinds of coffee menus found at a cafe are randomly selected from espressos to variation coffee and cafe latte, and each team has to speedily and precisely make the entire menu within the limited time and provide each drink in the order instructed on the list.

3. Master of Cupping (MOC) The annually increasing competition rate of MOC is disproving its popularity.

The contest first started in 2011 to enhance understanding of cupping given the growing coffee demand globally and increasing interest in coffee varieties by producing region. It is a heart-stopping contest of finding coffee with the same flavor and aroma, which demands speedy and precise judgment, instead of just an O-and-X manner of distinguishing coffee. In addition, the participants get to learn during the contest and spend time fully understanding coffee. The contest thus provides time for coffeemakers of Korea “to practice delving into coffee as a coffee sensation MOC” and arouse their outstanding coffee senses.

4. Master of Brewing, MOB MOB is a contest wherein various coffee extracting tools are used to compete, instead of being an espresso-based contest. Each contestant gets to express various coffee flavors and aroma using their individually prepared brewing and extracting machines and the official brewer of the contest. Teams of two persons participate in the contest.

The contest is held to show how differently tasting coffee can be made using various extracting tools.

The systemic grading of the expert judges and the blind testing of the general panel judges can overrule each other, making the contest all the more interesting and exciting.

The warm feeling that the word “brewing” recalls makes the contest all the more appealing to the public, and I look forward to the “charisma” that can cast a spell on the entire contest hall with coffee aroma.
