For fifteen years or so, I had the wonderful opportunity to teach English in Taiwan. For the most part, I taught in two public junior high schools (grades 7-9).

One becomes very aware of differences and, in my case, the students were aware of the way I was different.

This was evidenced one day when I was standing with a lot of students and one student had become aware of the amount of hair on my arms and tentatively put out his hand to touch my forearm and said, “Gee, teacher, you have a lot of fur!”
