DogFest takes over Viera BY KATIE SIVCO
Canine Companions is hosting a DogFest where you can have a paw-some day with your fur baby on Sept. 25. The event will take place at The Avenue Viera from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Festivities will include games for children, a fashion show for dressed-up dogs, live music and food. It’s free to enter, but you must register. “We’re so excited to have an in-person event this year, as well as a virtual option,” said Martha Johnson, the public relations and marketing coordinator for the Southeast Region of Canine Companions. “The Space Coast is a great place to rally for our cause. People in this area are already actively involved in the program, but we want to raise even more awareness.”

Space Coast United's Mallory Forgatch, left, and Taylor George take a ceremonial bite out of their national champion medals.
BY CARL KOTALA Taylor George has taken her share of penalty kicks throughout her soccer career … but never one like this. After successful conversions by Space Coast United Soccer U16 teammates Piper Miller, Mackenzie Plemmons and Bree Ehmer — plus two incredible saves by PRSRT STD ECRWSS US POSTAGE PAID PERMIT #785 FT PIERCE, FL PRSRT STD ECRWSS US POSTAGE PAID PERMIT #785 FT PIERCE, FL
goalkeeper Stephanie Burke — George stepped up with a chance to clinch a victory in the 2021 National Cup XX Finals. And clinch it she did. “I was weirdly calm, like if winning nationals wasn’t at stake,” George, a junior at Viera High School, wrote in a Twitter message. “I knew what I had to do
and I did exactly what I was asked. We’ve practiced PKs so many times in practice, so I knew there was no room for hesitation. Being that player to finish the game for everyone after Stephanie’s two amazing saves was such an indescribable feeling.”
