Missions Mobilizers represent SEND International primarily among churches and college/ university/ seminary campuses in Canada with the purpose of mobilizing the capacity of God’s people for global missions.
The Missions Mobilizer’s primary goal is to find and recruit cross-cultural, career, mid-term and short-term missionaries. The principal activities for effective recruitment are relationshipbuilding with influencers and communication, coaching and mentorship of prospective recruits.
This position reports to the Director of Mobilization.
Main Responsibilities
1. Recruitment (80%) • Initiate and cultivate relationships with key influencers in Christian colleges/universities, seminaries, and church and para-church agencies, denominational and other groups (e.g., visible minorities) within assigned territory. • Connect with prospective recruits by leading, conducting or participating in missionsoriented events, e.g., church and college activities, Missions Fests, missions conferences, ministerial fellowships, etc. • Establish and maintain regular contact with pastors and mission committee leaders, and encourage/facilitate their participation in SEND’s Church Partnership Program. • Maintain awareness of significant issues affecting recruitment and mobilization in assigned territory. • Understand the qualifications for ministry with SEND International, and be thoroughly familiar with the current opportunities available for long-term, mid-term and short-term workers in the various SEND fields. • Assist in the screening, training and development of short-term personnel and teams, especially for areas requiring specialized training • Assist in the development and implementation of the follow-up program for returning participants in mission trips or events; and especially a program aimed at encouraging short-term mission trip participants to consider and/or commit to career service. • Maintain meaningful contact with recruits pre- and post-appointment, and within the guidelines set by the Personnel Department.
2. Administrative (10%) • Contribute to the development of the yearly mobilization plan, including strategy formulation, goal-setting, territory planning and coverage plans, and mobilization initiatives. • Suggest ideas to help the Home Office Team develop communication strategies and materials that would be effective in informing, inspiring and igniting interest in Career, Mid-Term and Short-Term Missions among their various target audiences. • Set-up, maintain and regularly update a database of key information for influencers, contacts and prospects in colleges and churches within assigned territory. • In concert with the Director of Mobilization, set-up recruitment goals that are aligned with SEND Canada’s Strategic Plan, and regularly review progress towards the accomplishment of these goals. • Monitor mobilization activities and provide periodic progress reports as required by the Director of Mobilization. • Perform other duties and tasks that may be assigned by the Director of Mobilization.
3. Ministry (10%) • Maintain regular contact with a personal support team (network) for prayer and financial support. • Engage in appropriate professional and ministry development activities in accordance with an Individual Growth Plan.
Qualifications
1. Committed Christian with a passion for missions. 2. Basic understanding of global missions issues and challenges either through educational background (i.e., Christian/bible school grad) or personal missions experience (former crosscultural worker/missionary) 3. Strong people skills. Comfortable with initiating contact and cultivating relationships. 4. Good presentation skills and effective communication abilities (written and oral) . 5. Willing and able to raise personal support as a faith worker. 6. Agrees to subscribe to SEND’s Statement of Faith, Code of Conduct, and Operating
Procedures. 7. Team player, self-starter, creative thinker, and willing to go the extra mile, within the context of a life balanced between God, family and work.
