ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL SIGNED DOCUMENT. An appointment for Jose Sotero Prieto to the Mexican Consul signed on October 3, 1864.

The document reads: Satisfactory evidence having been exhibited to me that "Jose Sotero Prieto" has been appointed "Consul of the Republic of Mexico at the port of San Francisco, in California," I do hereby recognize him as such, and declare him free to exercise and enjoy such functions, powers and privileges as are allowed to "Consuls by the Law of Nations or by the Laws of the United States and existing Treaty stipulations between the Government of Mexico and the United States.". With a very crisp circular Presidential seal pressed lower left, dated "3rd day of October A.D. 1864" and of the Independence of the United States of America the "89th". With a full signature of the beloved 16th President written out in full as "Abraham Lincoln".

With the Secretary of State, William H. Seward signature lower left as well. Matted and framed.

EDUARDO VUILLARD (FRENCH, 1868-1940) Ink on paper, initialed upper left. Scattered renderings of male figures; the reverse noting with Camelot Auction labeled for charity by Mrs. Howard Baer, wife of prominens St. Louis businessman, president of A. S. Aloe Company for 30 years, president of the St. Louis Zoo Board for 10 years.

Awards and honors for Mr. Baer: Legion of Merit for war efforts 1945, The St. Louis Award in 1969, Globe-Democrat Man of the Year award 1971, first Jewish member on many boards of directors, one of the first two Jewish members of the St. Louis Club. His autobiography is titled, "Saint Louis to Me: Footnotes on 50 Years." 4.5"h. 8"w.
