BEGINS IN BEECHER FALLS, VERMONT
where Ethan Allen purchased its first sawmill in 1936
Every Ethan Allen custom dining table or buffet starts with Appalachian hardwood that has been sourced from responsibly managed forests. We mill it, then kiln-dry it to ensure long-lasting durability. For maple, drying takes about a month; for oak, drying can take as long as a year.
Once it‘s ready, the lumber takes a short journey to Orleans, Vermont, where we house a number of custom woodworking shops under a single roof. We take advantage of the precision of modern machinery, but we never forget the value of hand-craftsmanship. We never cut corners on quality features like mortise-and-tenon and dovetail joinery, which ensure your dining furniture will last beautifully for years to come.
Once your table or buffet is built, our craftspeople will finish your dining furniture by hand. They may stain the wood, sand it, distress it, and stain it again, depending on the character of the finish you or your Ethan Allen designer selected. The result will have oneof-a-kind character—the details of the tree it came from, the uniqueness of the artisan‘s hand—signposts of a piece that‘s built to last, created with pride, and made just for you.

MAPLE has a visible but smooth wood grain OAK has a more textured and prominent grain Your custom dining table can be customized in a range of wood finishes. If you’re in the mood to mix things up, you can even choose separate colors for your tabletop and base. Ask one of our interior designers to show you the options.

Rather than gluing our tabletops to their aprons, we attach them with Z-clips. The wood can expand and contract naturally, which prevents splitting or cracking as your home‘s temperature and humidity levels change.

Some manufacturers use one standard drawer size for every furniture piece—that‘s not done in our workshops. We customcraft each drawer to the proper depth, seal the interior and cure it with UV light, and dovetail each corner for durability.
