To furnish each seating area, she selected the Bridgewater Cove teak outdoor collection: the material absorbs less solar heat, the silhouette is clean and modern, and the painted finish is low maintenance. “It‘s treated already, so it‘s an easy collection to take care of,“ she said. “The finish also has beautiful wire-brushed details.“
The backyard has become the clients‘ favorite place to spend time, and Jill is confident they will enjoy it for many seasons to come. “I always try to look forward. I still want you to love it in 10 years, but I want it to feel like we did it yesterday.“
Summers in the Phoenix metro area are famously long— and blazingly hot. When clients approached Jill Workman to help them create a backyard paradise, she faced a challenging design dilemma: how to create indoor luxury in an environment where it isn't easy to beat the heat.
When Jill designs new spaces, she starts by asking clients to tell her more about the space they're working on, including both what they love now and what they‘d like to change. Luckily, she knew these clients well, having already worked on their vacation home. “They know how much I care,” she says, ”and that I would never steer them wrong.“
Jill created three seating vignettes in areas of the yard that her clients enjoyed most—the fire pit, pool, and covered patio, where they liked to watch television— plus an additional dining area. She selected custom cushions and pillows in a classic navy and white palette, adding cantilevered umbrellas for sun protection where needed. She also brought in accents like faux florals and seagrass trays to each tabletop—small details that made a big impact, giving every seating area a “resort living” vibe.
