We first began making wood furniture in Beecher Falls, Vermont, and our sawmill is still operational there to this day. It‘s where we take in responsibly sourced logs from Appalachian forests; grade, mill, and kiln-dry them; and use the wood to craft elements of some of our best-known pieces.
In Orleans, Vermont, we use the wood milled in Beecher Falls, relying on technology via state-of-the-art C&C machines to create intricate designs for table legs and pedestals, and then assembling, sanding, and finishing each piece by hand.
A little further south, in Maiden and Claremont, North Carolina, the furniture capital of the world, we hand-tailor fabric upholstery and craft exposed wood frames.
In Silao, Mexico, our craftspeople make fabric upholstery but also specialize in genuine leather craftsmanship, working with artisan-dyed hides that they cut and expertly color blend by hand.
At our wood furniture workshop in Honduras, we craft a wide range of wood furniture, including pieces that require detailed wood carving.

Some friends were chatting at the golf club when one mentioned needing help to design their new home. “I know a great designer,“ another said, recommending Elizabeth Costabel of Ethan Allen in Newburgh, NY.
The clients, a husband and wife, then went to meet Elizabeth. “What I‘m really looking for is something elegánte,“ the wife said. “Is that a real word?“ Elizabeth responded: “It is now!“
The client loved a palette of deep navy and emerald green, so Elizabeth set out to unite those saturated colors in a way that felt cohesive. She paired the colors in the formal living room, using a large-scale art print to bring the palette together.
In the dining room, she focused on emerald; in the light, airy conservatory, she chose neutrals with pops of navy.

Gold tones and crystal pieces are used throughout, adding further unity to the space.
Relying on her own background as a textile designer, Elizabeth used a beautiful fabric that the client already owned to create custom window valances and upholstery pillows—just enough pattern but not too much. “The custom work is essential,“ she says. “It gives it that extra.“
The result is a true showplace— elegánte indeed—and Elizabeth‘s work isn‘t done yet. “We still have the whole downstairs and family room to do.“
