Holiday Shout Outs
November 13-19, 2023 was National Apprenticeship Week. Every year in November, the US Department of Labor Apprenticeship sponsors a week of celebrating our registered apprenticeships and our apprentices. Each day during NAW there is a different theme: Monday: Registered Apprenticeship for Youth Tuesday: Registered Apprenticeship in New and Emerging Industries Wednesday: Expanding RA’s to Underserved Populations Thursday: Women in Registered Apprenticeship Friday: Registered Apprenticeship for Veterans & Federal Employees Through the week of NAW, SELCAT hosted different activities to celebrate the week. Each day of NAW, apprentices attending FTS received a special gift. Also, thanks to our sponsors, SELCAT was able to provide 41 tablets to students at schools in the Southeast so they may continue to learn about registered apprenticeships, hosted 31 students from Randolph County, Alabama high schools, hosted an Apprentice Challenge with Milwaukee Tool for students in class, and SELCAT had its annual daily prize giveaways! SELCAT is also happy to announce that out of approx. 824 active apprentices, we have 4 women in our program along with 134 veterans! Join us next year for an even bigger IT’S NAW Y’ALL week! Celebrate, Educate and Advocate for Registered Apprenticeships like SELCAT!

KNOW YOUR KNOTS.. The Butterfly Knot forms a single loop that will not slip if tightened. It can be used to shorten a rope for temporary use, and is more secure than a sheepshank.
