Timpson Trainer then showed Instructors how to teach why not to bracket grounding, just to bracket grounding, “What’s in parallel with your body,” and grounding through steel The third day of class, Instructors finished up training with Buckingham Mfg and moved indoors to begin classes with CM Labs and Three Phase Innovations Three Phase Innovations taught hands-on applications with simulators, vectoring, paralleling banks together, Underground; focus on circuits, grounding, isolating, back feed, etc In the CM Labs classroom, Instructors learned processes and OJT scenarios on simulators, how to create a scenario where operators meet a minimum standard, drones and SIM Guide training The last day of the summit, everyone gathered for a Group Discussion; “The good, the bad, the ugly ” Instructors gave their feedback on the first summit and things they would like to see for next year ’ s training. Overall, everyone was excited to have a training session geared towards the Outside training, and to also be able to spend time with Instructors from other Outside AJATC Apprenticeships to discuss things we all may have issues with and how things are handled It’s always a great thing to brainstorm and share ideas and processes with each other! A special thanks to Michael Dumoit with Milwaukee Tool and Chris Delavera at Buckingham Mfg for hosting a dinner, on separate nights, for our Instructors. We want to thank all participants, vendors and team members for helping make the Summit successful Lastly, a HUGE special thanks to Jason Iannelli for making this entire event possible for our Instructors! Without him, this would not have been possible

At the end of the day, we are here to produce the Industry’s best, safest, most knowledgeable Journeyman. Opportunities like the OITS training for our Outside AJATC Instructors helps make that possible Thank you to everyone involved! We look forward to next year ’ s SUMMIT

Protective grounding devices might look like they don’t need maintenance, but many factors can reduce their safe working capability Some factors could include:

Extreme Voltage

Wear and Tear

Rough handling and treatment

accidental pinching or kinking

Moisture

Nicks, cuts and scratches

VISUAL INSPECTION

The following things should be checked immediately before and after each use:

Cable deformation

Flattened or smashed section of the cable

Broken cable strands near the connection points

Corrosion

Damaged, split or cracked clamps

Wear on the clamp jaws and bolt threads

Mechanical Jumpers

Temporary supports or rubber covering must be used to ensure temporary mechanical jumpers are controlled at all times, and supports must not come in contact with any second point of contact. Macs are not considered insulated by OSHA, union and company rules. Do not make contact with energized jumpers. Maintain safe distance from macs and grounds. Attach the temporary bypass jumper to the first connection point, ensuring that the other end of the jumper is securely held in the clear or connected to the insulated hanger. Then complete the second connection.

Temporary bypass jumpers must never be used to:

Make or “energize”- Break or “de-energize” load current

The bypass jumper must only be used to bypass the work area

Always cover second points of contact within reach and always maintain safe MAD’s

Install an insulated hanger, if required

Only work on one potential at a time

All Connections to Wire, Equipment or Conductors:

Clean conductors where the bypass jumper or ground connections will be made. Visually confirm that the bypass jumper will be bridging the same phase. With grounds, confirm de-energized before applying grounds. If there is a possibility that the temporary bypass jumper will come in contact with any second point of contact: * Ensure the temporary bypass jumper is attached to the temporary conductor support * Or confirm a second layer of insulation has been applied.
