A Day In the Life Of...

Jennifer Gibbons

Hey y'all! So for the next few issues we will be featuring a "A Day In the Life of..." for our Team here at SELCAT! Just to share with you all a little more about what goes on behind the scenes at the apprenticeship! Thankfully, I drew the short stick!

A little bit about me first....

I have worked at SELCAT for 10+ years now I met my husband Eddie thanks to the Apprenticeship and we have been married now for 6 years. He is a Journeyman Lineman out of Local 222. So when I say I know a little more than just about the apprenticeship y'all, trust me I do. Life in this trade is way different than any other. But we wouldn't trade it for the world. We recently bought a home in DeFuniak Springs, FL, AND we are both so thankful and appreciative that in the first time in those 6 years, we see each other just about everyday now. Not just on the weekends, lol. I have worked at SELCAT as an Administrative Assistant, then as the Office Manager and now....the most fun job you could ask for! Now I'm grateful to say I am the Marketing, Outreach and Business Development Manager for the Apprenticeship. It's a mouthful to say, I know! I just say I get to do all the fun stuff now Also, having this new position has allowed me to be home (almost) every night and not just on the weekends. I work hybrid, at home sometimes, in the office in Newnan, GA sometimes, our Moore Haven, FL office sometimes........

CONT'D FROM PG. 3

I never know where I may be like alot of you in this trade, but I think that's one of the fun parts! I get to travel to conferences, I visit ALOT of schools, get to see apprentices on the job, visit Local Union Halls in our area, visit contractors offices and meet their staff when I'm close by, all kinds of stuff! Besides all the traveling, I handle all marketing materials, social media platforms we have, schedule events, write and publish the monthly newsletter, try and develop business partnerships that will help the growth of our program.....I could go on and on! One thing I do love is getting to meet all of our apprentices during our FTS classes! If you ask one of the guys from FTS, I have a camera in their faces all day why they work like crazy! But, it gives me a chance to get to know them better and to know more of the line families that we may come across one day out there! This is an incredible trade and Eddie and I have made some life long friends thanks to it!

Apprenticeships help you to get into whatever job field you want to get into. SELCAT has helped me get into Overhead linework. Linework is not easy to get into without an apprenticeship like ours. I love that I get paid while being trained. SELCAT makes me feel alot better about getting the right training.

SELCAT would like to take an opportunity and give a special "Spotlight" to Justin Livengood with Haugland in the Virgin Islands. Mr. Livengood has not only worked as a weekend Instructor for our apprenticeship, but he has been instrumental in assisting us with various things in the Virgin Islands. Justin has always been more than helpful and always looks for ways he can contribute to our program. Thank you so much Justin! We appreciate everything you do for SELCAT!
