New Year, New Places
IBEW Local 222 has been instrumental is helping SELCAT to expand and help cover a large part of SELCAT's jurisdiction. In Moore Haven, FL, past the sugar cane and sunsets, you will find a modest facility with huge potential. Mr. Bill Hitt, Business Manager, IBEW Local 222 sat down with us and gave us a look into the vision he has for this facility and how it will benefit all their members. What does that mean for SELCAT apprentices? Alot! SELCAT covers Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands! Florida is home to over 33% of SELCAT apprentices. Thanks to Mr. Bill Hitt and Local 222, the new facility in Moore Haven will be an instrumental location for apprentices to go for future training. SELCAT Instructor, Mr. Lloyd Roberts of Jupiter, FL is based in this new location! Lloyd Roberts, along with Local 222's Team member, Leo Ojeda, have been key in getting this new facility ready for everyone to use! Check back in our February Newsletter for a 1-on-1 with Mr. Bill Hitt, Lloyd Roberts and Leo Ojeda on plans for this beautiful new facility!

A Message from the Executive Director
As we start 2023, I can't help but think of how much we accomplished in 2022 Having said that, 2023 promises to be just as exciting and busy As we continue to expand our facilities in Newnan and Florida, we are working with our partners at LUMA in Puerto Rico for our training yards there This year we hope to add more hands on classes, more specialized online classes and industry needed classes such as OSHA refreshers and technology classes.
Being an apprentice is very hard work and dedication, not everyone makes it! The one's that make it find a rewarding career at the end of the tunnel One of my favorite quotes, "Success is no accident It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."

Melanie has been with the Team going on 7 years and was previously the Area Coordinator for SELCAT. She managed the administrative positions, classes, testing, scheduling classes and so much more!She is now the Office Manager and handles the bookkeeping, daily facilities operations and so much more now!

Phil has been an Instructor with our Team since February 2019 and was recently promoted to Senior Instructor. Senior Instructor is in charge of FTS classes and leading up our other Instructors we have on Team.

Shea has been on our Team going on 5 years and was previously our 10th District Coordinator. She will now handle all Job Calls, Interviews and head up SELCAT's new CDL Program.
A LETTER FROM OUR CHAIRMAN

Happy New Year everyone! 2022 was a great year for electrical workers as jobs were plentiful and SELCAT was prepared to meet to the challenge of providing apprentices of all skill levels to our contractors.
As chairman of the Board of Trustees, which consist of four IBEW representatives and four NECA Contractor representatives, I can assure you that we share a common goal of providing the best skilled workers in the industry to our members. We believe that there has never been a better time than today to be an apprentice and now is a great time to join our apprenticeship and become a Journeyman Lineman.
Investments in electric infrastructure whether for traditional transmission, substation, distribution or for the growing renewable market has risen significantly. Our members have experienced solid growth and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. As a result of the vision and leadership of some terrific past and present industry leaders, our facilities and our talented staff of educators are prepared for today and will continue to plan for our future. We continue to expand our state of the art facilities and are making significant progress providing new technologies and programs for training. For example, we've added Energized High Voltage Training to our training yard to provide apprentice line workers the opportunity to safely train using the same voltage they will see every day on the job. Also, SELCAT is in the process of establishing a Commercial Driving Program. Stay tuned for additional information on this program and its rollout. In Florida, IBEW Local 222 has been instrumental in establishing a new satellite training facility for local SELCAT apprentices to attend class and receive training.
2023 is sure to be another exciting year for our industry. Already we've seen another step increase in the number of apprentices participating in the program and who are working in the trade. In fact, in just two years the number of apprentices has grown from 500 to 800. We look forward to being engaged with all you and with all of our industry partners. We thank you for your investments, time and support. On behalf of all of the SELCAT Board of Trustees and myself, we wish you a healthy, safe and prosperous year!
