IB PYP or Cambridge - How to Choose?

For our first workshop of the year, we held the workshop titled “IB PYP or Cambridge, How to Choose?” We invited two SPH curriculum coordinators, Ibu Fany Rundupadang (PYP Coordinator from SPH Sentul City) and Ms. Jonah Narciso (Curriculum Coordinator at SPH Pluit Village) to present on this topic.

Since we use IB and Cambridge among our five campuses, we recognize that parents often ask about the difference between these two curricula. How these curricula work and how SPH implements them in day-to-day teaching is crucial for parents to understand in order to better support their child’s education.

When we think of Cambridge, we often imagine it to be subject-based and textbook-led, whereas IB is inquiry-based learning and leans more towards big ideas and skills such as communication, thinking, etc. Although these stereotypes are true to a certain degree, Dr. Barry, our Director of Learning, has explained that good international school practice merges them.

As Christian schools with two strong international programs, we at SPH have two vehicles to reach the same goal. And that goal for us is the Expected Students Outcomes. (Dr. Barry Shealy)

An excellent school should have robust subject frameworks and focus on big ideas. Most importantly, we at SPH consider how these curricula serve the main purpose of meeting the six Expected Student Outcomes (ESOs).
