1963 - SEIB’s founder, Barry Fehler tried to nd a dedicated horse insurance policy, but he realised that no such policy existed. So, he decided to create South Essex Insurance Brokers, specialising initially in equine insurance. From there, we expanded our specialisms by developing products and services for private hire insurance and insurance for funeral directors.

In the 1980’s we were proud to be the rst company to launch Veteran Horse Insurance.

Through understanding the needs of our clients, we went on to offer the rst horsebox insurance on the market which led to the addition of horsebox breakdown cover.

1996 – Launched SEIB Search for a Star, our very own grassroots, amateur showing competition.

2008 - SEIB was purchased by Ecclesiastical, but remained independent.

2018 - Awarded the status of Chartered Insurance Broker by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).

2019 - SEIB launched Yard of The Year AwardsNow in association with Horse & Hound and British Equestrian, our Yard of The Year Awards celebrate excellence in competition, teaching, training and horse care.

2020 – British Claims Awards winners for the third consecutive year.

2023 – Celebrating our Diamond Anniversary and granting over £60,000 to charity at our sixth SEIB Giving Awards.

1999 – Bumper year for awards!

2014 - SEIB purchased Cheltenham based Lansdown Insurance Brokers. Lansdown are property insurance specialists.

2018 - SEIB launched Giving Awards - Over £250,000 has been granted to charities and good causes through our SEIB Giving Awards.

2020 – SEIB purchased Colchester-based WRS Insurance Brokers. WRS are charity, church and care insurance specialists.

2022 – Proud winners of the Marketing and Customer Engagement Award at the UK Broker Awards. At the end of 2022 we joined Lloyd & Whyte, another company within the Benefact Group.

2023 – Launching our horse trailer prize draw in partnership with Cheval Liberté.

From supporting grassroots riders through our SEIB Search or a Star competitions, right through to the company’s contributions to good causes, SEIB’s ethos of providing opportunity and care is well set to continue.
